Tanner, Callahan ramble to Golden Mile victories

FAIRBANKS -- Teenagers led the way as more than 140 runners competed in Saturday’s Golden Mile, to kick off the Golden Days Parade.
Joshua Tanner and Maggie Callahan posted victories. The top two men’s finishers and all three of the top women are teenagers.
Tanner completed the course in 5 minutes and 11 seconds, to edge out Josh Ray by about 8 seconds in the race from the Aurora Energy Power plant to the park at the corner of 12th Avenue and Noble Street.
The most amazing performance may have been by men’s third-place finisher David Leonard, who clocked a time of 5:36. Leonard is in the 50-55 division.
Callahan posted one of the fastest times in race history, crossing the line in 5:21, for a third-place finish overall.
Christi Schmitz took the runner-up spot in 5:49 and Courtney Kisner was third in 6:27.

The Flint Hills Series resumes today with the the Gold Discovery Run. The 16.5-mile race starts near the entrance of Fort Knox gold mine and finishes at the Silver Gulch Brewery in North Pole.
The race is one of eight Flint Hills Series events that are used to determine the top age-group and overall runners in the Interior. It is the fourth race in the series.

...As bad as the article saying that "Silver Gulch in North Pole".
