Bee careful

Published Tuesday, July 22, 2008

To the editor:

You posted a photo of a bee in Sunday’s paper. I just want you to know it’s not a honeybee.

It’s a wild bee — but not a domestic or Africanized honeybee. It’s more likely to be a carpenter bee, bumblebee or a red-tailed bee ... just thought you’d like to know.

You are an accurate reporting organization — correct? “BEE”-lieve it or not!

I suppose after this stinging rebuke the editor called his wife and said "Honey, we goofed." Perhaps the paper could hire an entomologist to comb through their photos and ins[p]ect them a bit more carefully. That might stop the bloggers from swarming onto the site and making a buzz over letters like these before hiving off to other stories. We spend far too much time bumbling through this site as it is.

Well Honeybee or not, if it stings you "Honey" is probably not what you would be calling it anyway.

I'd rather read about a bee than a beetle, which by the way, bite.

I should have NEVER submitted my original letter. I feel so bad and am stressed out - I think I have HIVES.... I don't mean to drone on about it. I love all the barbs, but I see this topic waxing faint.... (Sorry, I was just winging it.)

Okay, the original letter sucked nectar, but the_Alaska_Curmudgeon and Jeff_Schuler2000 are sharp as ticks. Very clever!
As for beetles having ringos, they're jonpall Georgian ringos, in fact.
