Mackey's injured dog Zorro in Tacoma for treatment

Published Monday, March 31, 2008

TACOMA, Wash. -- Lance Mackey's sled dog Zorro is at the Puget Sound Veterinary Referral Center in Tacoma for an MRI to determine the extent of his injuries.

Zorro was flown to Washington Sunday for treatment of broken ribs and other injuries suffered Friday when he was hit by a snowmachine during the All Alaska Sweepstakes race.

The 9-year-old is the foundation stud dog in Mackey's Comeback Kennel. Mackey is the only musher to record back-to-back wins in the 1,100-mile Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race and the 1,150-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. He did it first in 2007 and then again this year.
