Deadline extended for Interior Alaska moose hunt permits
Published Sunday, May 11, 2008
ANCHORAGE -- The state has extended the sign-up period for two Interior moose hunts for nonresidents after receiving few permit applications.
The application period has been extended to Aug. 22 for the two hunts in Game Management Unit 21E along the middle Yukon.
Most of the 48 permits are available for one hunt, which is limited to nonguided nonresidents.
Most of the 12 permits also are available for the other hunt, which is for nonresidents hunting with a licensed guide.
Hunters are allowed one 50-inch antlered moose between Sept. 5 and Sept. 20.
Applications can be found online at www.hunt.alaska.gov.

That's a long trip for a set of antlers. The price of fuel is going to hurt the guide industry in particular this year. I expect it is also going to increase the cost of the transporters and impact every other recreational activity. Expect higher prices, fewer rv convoys, and less wages. Sadly some will lose their businesses because of it.
