ANCHORAGE -- A 28-year-old snowmachiner is dead after falling with his machine down a crevasse south of Portage.
Alaska State Troopers say the victim is Karl Jabas of Anchorage. He was among five snowmachiners riding in a snow field between Spencer and Trail glaciers Saturday.
According to troopers, rescuers flown in by helicopter found Jabas dead 50 feet down the crevasse, covered with snow. His snowmachine was found 40 feet down.
The body has been recovered.
