Trifecta

To the editor:

The Portal and the Army Corps of Engineers deserve the thanks of this community for making free, quality firewood available for this winter from the Chena Flood Control Project. Our summer rains, which caused flooding, jammed up lots of trees at the dam. It did not go to waste.

The Army Corps of Engineers organized the wood into easy-to-access rows of dry wood; easy picking, really. The Portal set up a system to schedule and permit the numerous folks who called to go collect free firewood. With a pick-up truck and a chain saw, my husband and I spent a lovely Saturday afternoon enjoying the outdoors, the exercise and each other, along with several others gathering wood for the winter. It was a beautiful day, free wood and I will get to make fire; a trifecta really!

Ya gotta love this community.

Great letter and idea! Thanks Corps!

Hope that some of the firewood went to the elderly, etc with stoves in the community...I would have helped cut and deliver to the needy if it would have been publicized better

x 2 Nancy, nice letter. Also good to see the Army COE do something practical for the community.

Contact places like Love,Inc or your church/organization of choice to see if there are elder/disabled who need some help getting in their wood in your neighborhood while the temps are still decent.
