Fairbanks residents shocked, angered by Palin's announcement

FAIRBANKS — A sample of Alaskans interviewed on Friday reacted to Gov. Sarah Palin’s surprise resignation announcement with shock and a bit of anger.
Standing in front of the downtown Co-op Building, Lawrence Everette said he had supported Palin as governor and in her unsuccessful for bid for the vice presidency last year, but he said he “lost trust” in the governor after she said she would resign by the end of the month.
“The spotlight is on her, and it’s not going to go away,” he said. “She needs to stick it out and go through the long haul. You don’t go run and hide when the going gets tough.”
Almost from the day in November when Palin and Arizona Sen. John McCain lost their bid for the nation’s two highest offices, pundits have speculated that Palin might skip running for a second term as governor in 2010 and instead seek the presidency in 2012.
Further fuel was added to that fire Friday, as Palin hinted at seeking higher office, closing her speech in front of her Wasilla home with the words, “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.”
However, Everette said he could not support her for the presidency now.
“Not without the follow through,” he said. “And I actually like the lady.”
Sipping coffee at a downtown cafe, Fairbanks resident Crystal Hurbi said she was “shocked” to hear of Palin’s plan to turn power over to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who is expected to be inaugurated as governor July 26 in Fairbanks.
“It depends on the reason why she’s leaving, but I feel that if it’s to go on to the national level, for that, she needed to finish her term,” Hurbi said. “People voted for her to be governor.”
Palin has been a visible and mostly popular figure in Alaska since she was swept into office in 2006 as a reformer. However, Alaskans seem less familiar with Parnell, an Anchorage lawyer who served in the state House for two terms, and who narrowly lost the Republican primary for the U.S. House last year against longtime Rep. Don Young.
“He strikes me as being more level-headed, but I thought (Palin) was until these past six months,” said Anchorage resident Anne Adasiak-Andrew as she chatted downtown with her mother, Jan Adasiak, and her aunt, Karen Brown.
The weekly meeting of the Interior Republican Luncheon at the Westmark Hotel opened with the announcement that Palin would soon resign.
Beka Zerbst, president of the group Fairbanks Republican Women said she was “stunned” by the resignation, but hopes that Palin can promote Alaska issues such as opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration on a much larger national stage.
“There is also a brilliance to her move that now she’s able to go out and do interviews on the national circuit,” Zerbst said. “I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Sarah Palin.”

Christmas comes in July. Sarah, now your free to cash in on the 15 minutes of fame you achieved. Let's just hope that it is all you get.
Thank You Sarah Palin. You are now free to follow your own plans, and can stop taking time away from your job working for us. We need and want a GOV that is 100% for the people of Alaska. Not a self centered power hungry politician with dreams of greatness. Thank You for your service, now move along.
Well, I guess that she won't have to face impeachment as the wanna-be-governor, by accepting another "job".
She left Wasilla in debt, Alaska in debt... I wonder how much more in debt she can make the rest of the US?
It has occurred to me today, that the only difference between pain and hillary clinton, is pain carries an NRA card.
The_Gler, I hope you are correct in the statement of 15 minutes.
Thank you, palin!
You know it would have been better if she spent time IN Alaska instead of everywhere else. She can fund raise for causes here instead of heading across the country to New York. If you want to play politics, you'd better be ready to tighten up your shoe straps tighter than what you have.
I'm already going through Levi and Bristol drama withdrawals! Help!
What's our LT. Governor got hiding in the closet to drag out?
The fun is just beginning.
She prayed, and God told her to resign.
Which proves that god was on my side after all.
Thank you God for answering both our prayers.
Oh - and Thank you Jesus for keeping that idiot out of the White House. lol
keeps getting funnier.
<<<<<<now she’s able to go out and do interviews on the national circuit,”>>>>>>
nothing was stopping her from doing so. (well, ok, the mcain folks stopped her after her idiotic responses to curic and gibson...) she did all kinds of interviews with her buddy greta and the mannity.
<<<<“I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Sarah Palin.”>>>>>
gawd, i hope not. she is the DINGBAT who keeps giving and giving and giving....
bobeaux: God does seem to be a bit fed up with the Republicans these days, doesn't he?
<<<She prayed, and God told her to resign.>>>>
no, god opened the door to CUT AND RUN and the DINGBAT "ploughed" right through.....
<<<<<<Oh - and Thank you Jesus for keeping that idiot out of the White House>>>>>
no joke. one dumbya was enough.........
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it's been.
OK, what are the odds that she'll turn around and change her mind in ten days or so, just to get her name back in the headlines?
Where's the Rooster????
She and he R the flake!
Or just a maybe just the Debil!
I propose from this day forward Sarah Palin be known as the "Cut-and-Run Governor". She was prepared to cut-and-run in the 2008 national election and now she is doing it once again with her governorship. Once might be a mistake. Twice is a pattern.
TAC...what you suggest has occured to me, too, but she couldn't possibly provide us with such a wagon-load of entertainment all in one month. Or could she?
I've always said, the truth will come out. We will know the full extent of this ploy when the digging is done.
Who ever put it in this woman's head that she has even the slighest chance in the world of becoming our president was really messing with one of the dimmest politicians I ever seen or heard speak.
If she is an Alaska girl why does she should like and North Dakota girl?
Maybe the same reason Bush (From CT) Sounded like a Texan.
In fact, TAC....as I watched the news report with her making her announcement on tv tonight I could see right after she stated her plans to resign that Parnell's lips were moving. Now that I think about it more I'm sure he was mumbling, "Whacksie-sacksie, no take-backsie!"
Dobie, I know I gave you a lot of grief over your Sarah-bashing some months back. So it pains me to say this, but I I'm man enough to admit I was wrong.
You pegged her, dude.
(But don't go thinking that makes me a Democan't.)
The time on these frivolous lawsuits should make everyone angry.
Not only does it detract from the job as governor, but it also spends tax payer money on vindictive, silly lawsuits.
Gol, TAC.....trying to give me a heart attack? *Grin* I bow to your integrity.
"I bow to your integrity."
Don't do that, dobie, 'cause I ain't got any.
Goodbye Palin. No one will miss you especially the wolves.
My mom lives in Ohio and called me. It was breaking news on her local news. She knew before I did up here.
She is an embarrasment to Alaska.
Thank you for resigning!!!
Happy "Independence Day" everyone! Whooo hoooo!!!
I had the impression that there is far more behind her reasons for resigning then she mentioned in her announcement. Her rambling speech was obviously off the cuff and not fully thought out. She may be looking forward to the rubber chicken circuit and making some bucks from her notoriety, but I wonder if she doesn't want to be in office when another shoe drops on her misdeeds.
Tom Irwin for Governor!!!
We're sad? Really? I've been talking to people all day and have yet to find anyone who is sad or angry about Palin leaving. We've all wanted her to get the heck out for months!
TAC, ""I bow to your integrity."
Don't do that, dobie, 'cause I ain't got any"
I beg to differ.
MrsS
The embarrassment to Alaska is you people that do nothing but sit behind your computers and act like you are so much better than somebody that is actually doing something for this state. I would just love to see how any of you would do under the state and national spotlight against such an opposition that has no ethical boundaries.
Hey, Palin"snogoqueen", since when do you have time to write on the newsminer blogs in Fairbanks? Oh, yeah, forgot you have a lot of time since you started focusing on issues outside of your homestate. Sorry, my bad!
As worthless as Palin was in office she was still a million times better than Frank Murkowski.
Aren't you so smartntvmama!
Greatest news I've read in a while!
I think Sarah Palin would be best suited to go home and just be mom, without ALL the distractions, drama, and associated BS of the political whirlwing. That's NOT to say that woman do not have a place in the decision making of the world, but simply that "darned", when you're a mom, mom fairly much takes up all available time for other crap. Being mom is a full-time job in my space, with little time left over for hog-wash.
THANK GOD SHE IS FINALLY GONE....
I SURE KNOW I WONT VOTE FOR HER IF SHE RUNS FOR PRESIDENT.
Just get out and go do your book or whatever, just get out....we deserve alot more for our leader of this state...
No shock and anger here...we're celebrating! 80 degrees, sunshine, not a cloud in the sky all day, and Sarah Palin resigned. Can it get any better?!
Hooray!
Sarah was right. There is a God!
And judging by the comments, I think Chris Freiburg found the 2 people in all of Fairbanks who are shocked and angered by her announcement. I'm getting excited to be at Alaskaland on the 26th to bid her good riddance!
A grizzly in the wild is a lot more dangerous than a grizzly in a zoo.
Great day at Chena Lakes. Sun, fun, and Oh, yeah Sarah resigned.
Thank you.
Sarah, go home to your family & husband. No political aspirations hold ANY greater priority than your family. Go home.
How sorry I feel for the people of Alaska. She had 85 percent approval prior to her candidacy of VP and now it is 50 percent. You libs change your mind all the time. You have no clue as to what you want. Maybe that's what your campaign of "Change" meant. "We're going to change our minds all the time and really mess up America". Well, now you have achieved making the biggest mess of America since 1776. Congrats! We lost a good and decent public servent. We love you Sarah. Thank you for your service. P.S. I wonder what you guys will be saying when you don't receive that extra PFD stimulus this year when the cost of fuel will go up again in the fall. Because you know Parnell won't grant you that money like Palin did. Good luck keeping warm.
Sarah, you are a power hungry politician like all the rest of them. You suck at debating and don't understand the issues. You are shrill and your family should be on Jerry Springer. You are a big government populist, not a conservative republican.
Most of us are real Alaskans. We are content with where we currently are while you clearly are not. We are not stupid. We know you just want to skip right to the Presidency like Obama did. I hope Governor Bobby Jindal of LA runs in 2012 and whops your pretty hiney.
Good Riddence. I hope this was the last time you embarse the state.
I may be the only one, but Sarah I'm saddened by the news and I hope there's a brighter horizen for you in the future. &*^% Vanity Fair and all the others, pass the ball and find a way to make a slam dunk elseware!!! My best wishes to you!!
Just ran across some juicy scoop on a polical blog. Sounds like Sarah and Ted could have been cell mates!
http://www.bradblog.com/?p=7280#more-728...
Maybe Exxon made Palin an offer she couldn't refuse?
As a first time Governor Sarah had it all going her way. This was basically given to her by the people of this state. Enthusiastically so. There was no looking to see if she truly had even the job experience of a low level state employee. People who did look and say hey wait a minute got shut down. She is a real Alaskan woman and right or wrong she gave it her best shot. I sincerely hope that her and her husband and family take a break and get their lives back. And she did put the boots to that Lyda something or another down there. That was worh more than money right there. Now if we can root Irwin out of there maybe we can get our state back and the open door process as well.
Unfortunately, snogoqueen, she lost the respect of both "libs" and conservatives. It would be nice and neat to blame it all on libs, but she's got almost MORE enemies on the Republican side than the Democratic side. I think there could be some good reasons for all that, as well as some bad ones.
If she truly is getting out of politics for her family's sake, I would respect her more. But her ego is the size of all outdoors, and I fear she has other plans.
I've never heard of someone being embarsed before. You should be embarrassed.
What ego? When did she portray any narcissism? She is the most genuine person for a political position that I've seen in a long time. Doesn't anyone remember her ousting the corrupt politicians that were ruling all Alaskan interests for years? She deserves quite the credit for that and other accomplishments.
Well, I'm speechless. I've stayed away from this website all week, after overdosing on it last weekend. But I'm drawn back tonight to see what people are saying about the Palin surprise - and the really amazing thing is that the governor's really fervent supporters are shockingly silent. Where's plainview? Where's AKReport and her chorus of three? And what has become of Andrew Briseno? Disenthrallment can be such a painful process...
But then there's snogoqueen...
Snogoqueen, you represent a first for me on here. I have never called anyone an idiot before, but you take the cake. You are an ignorant idiot who has no clue about Alaska or its people. If the price of fuel goes through the ceiling, we will be making MORE MONEY in the Permenant Fund, not less. Sean Parnell has nothing to do with whether or not we will receive our PFD. You should have studied a little prior to spouting off at something you have NO KNOWLEDGE about!!
As far as it goes with Sarah. Sarah, I used to be one of your loyal supporters, but after what you did to us after you went south to seek your fame and fortune, I am glad to see you leave the office too!!
Be a wife & mother!
I no longer consider palin an Alaskan.
Well if she is going to rebrand herself. it makes sense to leave what she is doing to do the necessary preparation work. She was ill prepared for the VP push and it showed. She now has something that she didn't have before-name recognition.
Remember Tricky Dick. everyone thought he was out of the picture in 1960. Personal feelings aside, this woman and her brand of politics should not be disregarded.
Decades ago Sen.Mike Gravel realized that politics is a septic-tank..
during his long sabbatical outside the tank he worked to cultivate the seeds of an alternative method of populist legislation..
these seeds were originally granted to us by the nations founding fathers..
http://ni4d.us/
..this website is a good place to start researching Senator Gravel's current active political science project.
yeah, behind closed doors I confess to being somewhat negative about some of Gov.Palins actions during her tenure. What she did today took a lot of strength to be introspective and take the leap. I wish the Palin's best of luck. Change is the only constant in a dynamic world.

Thanks for your post YukonJohn. Now I can remain silent.
And You too Oh_please. I can't stand those curtains either
....gawd, whutt awful curtains indeed ---- (;-P)
surplused from Spenard Builders Supply who dug them out of AK Tent&Tarp's dumpster...
very funny OP
aklibbylover - Thanks for the link - I read it, then searched for more info on this interesting development. Can't ascertain that this is the big story, but it is fascinating. Until now, I hadn't heard that there was a possible scandal involving Palin's house and the Wasilla Sports Center, but it seems that story's been around for a long time. Anybody interested can read your link, or this one: http://a11news.com/2125/sarah-palin-embe... or this one: http://threebrain.blogspot.com/2009/02/h..., or this: http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-s...... Wally Hickel on the Exxon deal: "Palin is putting her national ambitions first"

From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage --
Most of the reaction to the deal has been cautiously optimistic or better.
But former Gov. Wally Hickel just put out a blistering statement on the announcement that Exxon Mobil joined with TransCanada to work on a natural gas pipeline to the Lower 48.
First some context: The Republican Hickel was co-chair of Gov. Sarah Palin's 2006 campaign for governor. But they had a hard split when Palin dropped her active promotion of the proposed "all-Alaska" natural gas pipeline route from the North Slope to Valdez, an idea Hickel is passionate about.
Below is Hickel's statement:
"When Governor Sarah Palin was elected in 2006, we believed she would put Alaska first. But once elected, she put Sarah first.
Because of her national ambitions, she is promoting an agenda that will allow Outside corporations to dominate Alaska’s resources, including our energy and the jobs it provides.
Over my objection, the Governor negotiated a contract last year with TransCanada under AGIA, supported by the legislature, that will now provide ExxonMobil Corporation with half of $500 million of state funds.
I have urged the Governor many times to lead our state in another direction. We should build and own a natural gas pipeline from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez and ship Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to world markets.
She has taken another road.
Unless the people of Alaska rise up and oppose the TransCanada -ExxonMobil deal, we will revert to the situation in territorial days when Outside interests controlled our lives.
Alaska must not lose its way as an Owner State. We have created a state based on commonly-owned resources and lands. That model is alive and well in Alaska. It’s an important concept for the world, and we mustn’t lose what the founders of our state created 50 years ago."
-by Walter Hickel
As America sheepishly accepts the socialist agendas being proposed from Washington, today's news makes me think of the actions of Thomas Paine leading up to the American Revolution.
Described on Wikipedia:
"Paine's great contribution was in initiating a public debate about independence, which had previously been rather muted."
I believe that Wally Hickel also has a horse in this race. He owns a percentage (12% I believe) of Yukon Pacific who would stand to make a fortune off a gasline to Valdez. I am not against them or him making money, even alot of money, but lets not be too holier than thou on this issue.
That said, I am glad to see Sarah gone and now we should make damn sure that we are a state of OWNERS. Wally Hickel was right when he made that statement a while back when he said we are a OWNER STATE and we need to make sure the rest of the world knows it and does not forget it!!!
Sarah, go home. Stay out of this back stabbing political BS. Your kids need you.
Snogoqueen... you have been sipping a little too much hateroraid for such a glorious day!!! Let’s review and clarify your weak attempt to back a woman who has done more for Tina Fey's career than the people she was hired to defend.
What we wanted was a governor who put Alaskans first and brought some relief to the outrageous prices for the natural resources that we are cultivating in our back yards!! We wanted a governor who stopped pork barrel spending and the big boy clubs that were running our government. We wanted a governor who honored our land and respected our capital...by living there!! We wanted a governor who did not charging us for flying her family back and forth across the state. We wanted a governor who did not make a laughing stock of our home. We wanted a governor who did not use her power to handle her family drama!!! We wanted a governor who was for Alaska… which clearly Sarah is not!!
I am very clear as to what I want from the politicians that are elected to run the resources and government of this great state!!! Sarah Palin's campaign goals were for Alaskans... it has been an unfortunate series of events that the Republican Party used to counter the change revolution started by Clinton/ Obama standoff. It has been frustrating and infuriating to watch Sarah flush her political career down the drain because she did not recognize her own limitation. If she only took the time to get this state rolling in the right direction… and followed through on some of her campaign goals she could have strengthened her character and possibly promoted her career. Her haste, in all her decisions, teeters on the verge of psychotic!!
Your comments are as confounded as Sarah’s actions… it’s no wonder you support her!
PS... The only reason she passed the stimulus so quickly was to build her portfolio for the VP ticket...she had no other accomplishments to stand on!!! Secondly, the price of fuel is still the highest in the nation, next to CA and HI!!! And finally, AK with our two electoral votes hardily makes a dent in the national agenda. Please check yourself before you defend yourself… because you are nothing more than an outsider looking in and obviously don’t get what is going on in our neck of the woods.
One of the Palin Administration's selling points last year for the Granting of TransCanada the "sole exclusive right" to build the Alaskan Natural Gas Pipe Line was that in the past the owners of the Trans Alaska OIL Pipeline had artificially raised the price of the Oil pipeline's tariffs (rates) that were deducted from the value of our Alaskan Royality Crude OIL.
These tariffs (rates) also served to keep independent non Oil pipeline owners from competeing with the Prudhoe Bay majors like Exxon in developing Alaska's North Slope Oil resources.
With Exxon partnering with TransCanada won't this monopolization of the Natural Gas exploration now also continue like has happened with the OIL in the past?
With Exxon now partnering with TransCanada won't this selling point of an independent non producer now be nullified?
I guess so much for "Free Market" ideology.
http://www.adn.com/money/industries/oil/...
If Alaskans want to build and own a gasline..
here's one that is affordable for all Fairbanksans to pool-up and build ourselves..
http://s281.photobucket.com/albums/kk209...
it will generate enough cash flow in 3years to build the next whizz-bang polypipe gasline -- a cryogenic LNG polypipe vacuum-wall gasline Deadhorse to Valdez/Anchorage.
Follow the money people who wins who loses?
Now the question should be what will ExxonMobil pay for the Alaskan
Royalty Natural Gas through a pipeline that only goes to the Exxon's and BP's Alberta OIL Sand fields?
Maybe Exxon made Palin an offer she couldn't refuse?
If I'm "RIGHT" expect Tom Irwin to go next in this Alaskan Coup!
For the record, I'm shocked, not angry.
Follow the money people.
Who wins, who loses?

Royalty Natural Gas that goes through a pipeline that only goes to the Exxon's and BP's Alberta OIL Sand fields?

WOW, all u libses panties are really in a dither, looks like ethic complaint withdrawls...Oh my, how are we going to harass the most honest ethical gov we ever had if she's not the Gov??
OMG, what is she going to do, cash in on her fame , and have more than enough money to defend herself in court??? ohhh nooooo....
You earth worshippers need God in your miserable lives..
Palin..."has taken another road.

wow. After watching this distinctive Alaskan soap opera since it started, the one thing that is clear to me is how fickle, childish and historically myopic the Alaskan political crowd has become. Remember Murkowski? Yes, Frank. How about Lindauer? The GOP finally picks someone that people can and do rally behind and then when she actually makes decisions that they may not agree with, they are ready with their pitchforks to publicly dismember her. Good luck Sarah. I wouldn't want to work for these jerks either.
Ethical?Where were you while she was running for VP?I'm sorry you don't use your kids for media fodder.Trig was in the spot light along with Bristol.
Ethics require more the most people who run for office can afford. She fought on releasing her Medical info and even then blacked out a lot of it.She cost MaCain the ovel office.I like MaCain he had good ideas I just couldn't back him with Palin as VP.So I voted for Obama.
She's spent more time on anti abortion ideals then on the state as well as advacating a No Sex Ed for Alaska's schools. That is not ethical at all. After all if it did work she wound not be a grandma.
Goodbye Palin.I knew you'd be bad from the start and ya proved me right from the start.I voted for the other guy!Ya did one good thing for alaska.
Here to hoping we get a real govener in 2010.I hope the next guy/gal lives up to the promises they make!
FARBANKSGAS REMEMBER?
Jan. 17, 2007
To the editor:
I was astonished the other day at what I saw when my friend’s mother was filling her gas tank when I was with her, over at the Safeway Gas pump on College Road. The man across from us decided he was going to brave filling up his whole tank
As his 28 gallons poured through the spigot, the price jumped up and up … When it clicked, and the pump stopped, the price read, “$68.36+A+1L”. I pondered, only for a moment, what this could mean, I thought for a second it had something to do with the credit card he used.
But no, this was no charge Visa or MasterCard could cover, two trapdoors opened on either side of the pump, one about shoulder height, one about waist high, and two dull axes swung at the man’s left shoulder, and right hip, collecting the charge of “An Arm and a Leg.” Plus $68.36.
“It was useless for me to fill up my tank after I realized that the gas pump had also withdrawn all of my funds. Not to mention it hurt like hell,” he stated in the ER.
What’s next, attached nurseries so that parents must leave infants to pay for their gas? Or perhaps BP will design a scanner that will collect deeds to houses and properties in order to top off that tank.
I’m not in direct need of paying for my own gas, but I am old enough to realize that if the people I live with can’t afford gas, I can’t go anywhere, if we can’t pay for our oil, I go to sleep cold. Is this really what we are going to have to resort to?
Will gas companies ever find an end to how much is too much for what they charge? Who knows, pretty soon all of America will be homeless and living out of their car with a full tank of gas, waving with their one arm, and controlling the pedals with one leg, childless, and parked with the ignition off to save gas.
Hello from Sacramento California.
I have to tell you all that I am very happy to see that you in Alaska are not the Palin sheep that the media portrays you to be. According to the media we get down here you are mostly in love with your governor. According to this website, specifically this story, 99% of you could not possibly care less. I am so relieved to read all the joy in your postings. I will pass on the word from the Fairbanks Daily News Miner readers that Palin will not be missed.
Alaska and her family aside, she was and is an embarrassment to America. Like I have been saying for months......Compare Palin to any high profile female in politics......Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice, Margaret Thatcher or Hillary Clinton and what do you have? You have a Ferrari, Bugatti, Aston Martin, Bentley and a Snow Machine. If she had half of the intelligence of any of these women America would have endorsed her and I would not blame them.
Can anyone suggest a website where I can read what Palin supporters are saying? How about you SnowGoQueen?
Thank you, thepastrychef
I forgot to mention......HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!
And this comes just days after the Exxon/Koch funded Fraser Institute tells us:
"Alaska: “Notoriously corrupt government. Essentially a Third World country."
http://www.newsminer.com/news/2009/jun/2...
Such perfect timing!
.
Well, I guess it was time to put down the bulldog. Can't beat a dog while it's down.
Nothing new here. I always knew she was only in it for herself. (You can fool some of the people all the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all the people all of the time).
Now I can go back to not feeling stupid about being a registered Republican again.
It is unfortunate that Sarah cut her term short. I wish her and her family well. Maybe all of those Palin hating democrats will cut the rest of us life long Alaskans a break and go back to the state they were born in. And what is a "Palinista" anyway? It's not in the dictionary. Would that be the antithesis of a free-loading dem with a lifelong membership to PETA?
Trapshoot, I am not a Dem. I used to be Republican, but for the last 28 yrs. I have been an AIP member. I am thrilled to see Sarah Palin gone. I supported her for that first 18 mos. when she was doing such a good job, then when she went south and started to spout that tired, weak, republican line, that was it for me. Then when she took on the mantle of the savior of the religious right I knew her time was limited. I am just glad she is gone. She was/is only out for herself. This today was probably just another publicity grab in her warpped mind.
Pastrychef--
And here I thought all Californians were boneheads. Hats off to you, too. Thanks for popping in.
Dove - Should all women who are mothers quit working and stay home or just Sarah?
thepastrychef - At least you didn't throw Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer in your comparisons of "vehicles". Your appraisals are questionable, at best (especially with Clinton and Albright - good Lord - these are smart cars? I'll grant you expensive, though.). Anyway, I digress. For the record, most Alaskans don't give a whit about what those in California think of us or our chosen Governor - whoever it may be.
The soon-to-be-ex-governor of Alaska - We all must choose our own road, but I know that only the most dire of circumstances would allow me to show my children a quitter. I'm disappointed in the choice you just made for Alaska.
Damn, that really makes my day!!!!!!
Break out the chain saws boys and get them wood stoves ready, they ain't gonna be no Free Money this year. top of the mornin to ya'll.
This behavior falls into my thought process when she was running for VP with McCain and it looked like she was exploading all over the net and to some point around the globe. I said it then and still say now. Sarah Palin is better suited for the commercial/tv market. It's just a matter of time.
:)
I believe that the motive for this decision primarily is money. I believe that Sarah has figured that she can make perhaps as much if not more money not being in the gov. office. Further, whatever she makes or spends will not be tracked to the same degree that it is being tracked now. As non-gov, initially being paid to speak at speaking engagements and making appearances throughout the nation in some cases can pay a pretty penny. Then of course completion of the book will put her in millionaire status. From the outside looking in, not being gov, financially speaking, appears to be a strong strategic move in her favor.
http://www.themudflats.net/wp-content/up...
any one who votes for her to be president (if she runs) is just plain stupid, and should be eliminated from the gene pool. what a damn looser!
Maybe Parnell can auction Palin off on Ebay.
I cant beleive even the republicans are dumb enough to nominate her
for president, but after bush who knows.
thepastrychef, conservatives4palin.com is where many Palinistas are hanging out to console each other. The site crashed yesterday as there were so many mourners, so keep trying if you get knocked out. I dropped by to pay my respects.
And also too, for the record, I am surprised and delighted. Pleased and happy. Deliriously thrilled. And a bit of anger, too, because she has just embarrassed Alaska even more with her diva drama episode.
There is more to come! so hold your breath, it won't be pretty!
cosmos -- "any one who votes for her to be president (if she runs) is just plain stupid, and should be eliminated from the gene pool. what a damn looser!"
And there we have the most base sentiment of the smallest minds that make up our citizenry.
Suggestion to you 'cosmos': if you're going to charge someone of being a "looser" (sic), learn to spell the word first.
Maybe now she can star in her own Porn-o. HAHAHA
The only true statement Palin made was I am leaving for the good of Alaska....
You betcha...
I voted for Gov. Palin for her Alaska office and Sen. McCain/Gov. Palin ticket 2008! I would stand behind our Governor again. Our house hold of voter think she is tops! Some folks may not see the whole picture that she and her mentors are working on! Our new Pres. Oboma talks about change, he made only one so far: spending all of our money into about four generation of our off spring. Our Governor is making changes happen! Hold onto your hats and we will see great things happen in the near future. If you supported her in the past, do it again and let go with her to the higher places for our great state.
We see the PICTURE, however, what you are seeing is a comic strip.
And in your picture, Bush was a great leader? HUH!
ok prospector loser!
cosmos -- I'm sorry. I don't argue with children.
Simmer down, Prospector.
I know this is a hard thing for you to swallow but could you please shelve your usual rudeness and conceit for one day?
I have met the kettle and it is you.
It'll be OK, Prospector. You'll see!
aknetskimo..you don't follow politics very well, do you. If you don't know what Obama has done so far, you don't follow the progress. Find out about the credit cards he just kicked in the a--. The veterans affairs programs he's started to help train our men and women when they leave the military...i've got to go, but, take the blinders off and learn something before you condemn. Alaskans...wake up and smell the coffee. THANK GOODNESS SHE IS GONE!!!!
adifferentview..you got that right. Just saying he was from Texas got him elected. Texans back Texans big time. Alaskans were going to back her with that same faith, but, she opened her mouth and was found out to be nimblebrained. If you still follow her after this, you need help.
My favorite Don Young moment was when he handed it Sean Parnell
over which earmarks... you remember.
I fear he is as clueless as Palin was.
Is Berkowitz gonna run for governor now? I hope not.
He can't beat his kids at tee-ball.
Now the libtards are really scared! And they're true reasons for hating Palin so much are more obvious than ever!
@bigchinasean: So is this the first signs of who's going to be the next big target of the liberal media: Parnell? Is it because he already signal to follow and continue Palin's legacy?
Boy, it sure sucks to live life hating everything and everybody that you don't agree with....
So... the guy who refers to those whose political opinions he disagrees with as 'libtards' is somehow qualified to condemn others as haters?
What color is the sky on your planet, JET?
And I thought the utilization of the word 'tard' was off limits and considered in poor taste post-Trig.
Anybody that links to Celtic Diva's or Mudflats webpages need not say anymore about where they stand and what they are....
@oh_please: Yeah, I had a moment of weakness and fell to the same lower level as some of you by using words like that.
The color of MY sky is the same as yours but a lot brighter!
I didn't get the memo about not using the 'tard' word since I rarely use it anyway. I won't use it again, please don't file an ethics complain..... LOL
It's OK JET....at least we can still have musTARD!!!
time to change your diaper prospector?
Some of you folks don't have a clue about how lucky you are. Sarah can do alot more for Alaska and the U.S. now! She is now in a position to help elect conservatives across the country and turn back the massive march toward socialism. 15 ethics complaints, dismissed 15 times. She already has more experience that the WON who served less than 200 days actually on the job as senator.
BigRob -- "...she opened her mouth and was found out to be nimblebrained."
Love this. The meaning is exactly the opposite of BigRob's intent. BigRob, you just complemented the ex-governor.
snogoqueen 7/3/2009, 10:08 p.m. Suggest removal What ego? When did she portray any narcissism? She is the most genuine person for a political position that I've seen in a long time. Doesn't anyone remember her ousting the corrupt politicians that were ruling all Alaskan interests for years? She deserves quite the credit for that and other accomplishments.
WoW just WoW

According to the survey conducted by Harris Interactive(R) and commissioned by real estate Web site Zillow.com. U.S. adults would most like to be neighbours with Sarah Palin (14%), followed closely by Oprah Winfrey (13%),
It also seems age and gender plays a prominent role in neighbour preferences:
Among adult men, Sarah Palin is the most desired neighbour (17%), while 17% of adult women said that Oprah Winfrey was the most desired neighbour, ahead of Palin (12%).

AVENGERS: Yes, yes, I understand we have the equivalent of Joe the Plumber in France. It's called Marcel, the guy with bread under his armpit.
PALIN: Right, that's what it's all about, the middle class and government needing to work for them. You're a very good example for us here.
AVENGERS: I see a bit about NBC, even Fox News wasn't an ally as much as usual.
PALIN: Yeah, that's what we're up against.
AVENGERS: Gov. Palin, I love the documentary they made on your life. You know Hustler's Nailin' Paylin?
PALIN: Ohh, good, thank you, yes.
AVENGERS: That was really edgy.
PALIN: Well, good.
AVENGERS: I really loved you and I must say something also, governor, you've been pranked by the Masked Avengers. We are two comedians from Montreal.
PALIN: Ohhh, have we been pranked? And what radio station is this?
AVENGERS: CKOI in Montreal.
PALIN: In Montreal? Tell me the radio station call letters.
This Brainless Thinking was Six Minutes of pure pathetic cluelessness By Sarah Palin.
At the very end She says to someone in the Background that the Call was from
"Montreal, France"
OP -- "It'll be OK, Prospector."
I have no doubt of that. Like you, I applaud the governor's decision, but for reasons not of depraved malice.
I've got to wonder: Are people really as heartless as their words sound?
The woman's given her notice. It's doubtful she's so naive she doesn't know this has ended her political career. She's chosen her family. Good choice Sarah.
So what's the motive for the continuation of running her down? She doesn't want to be president...esp. if she doesn't want to be YOUR governor, Good morning! I mean really, I've read folks equating Palin to Hitler and Kim Jung ILL, and worse! Who'd want to serve you? Nice you have your anonymity! With such surely words you'd be lucky to get served at McDonalds (no, they don't have to serve you either).... No she doesn't want to further her political life, or she'd have at least finished ONE term. So, now dear seething public, it's time to run your own lives, if you can. Or find somewhere else to point the finger. Show's over.
typo correction: surly not surely.
Palin's bizarre actions are so representative of the tattered Republican Party; no direction, reactionary, fear of their own government, blaming each other, and no clear leadership other than right wing talk show hosts. What would she do if she were the vice president right now (God forbid), quit and run away because there was "controversy?" Like most Republicans she's a quitter. Her actions make her and her party continue to look weak and in a state of chaos. Good riddance.
wow, rough day for the plainites. but that's petty of me to say. will parnel be better or worse? will he actually be in juneau?
This may be her plan:
Palin will run against Murkowski.
Palin will be elected as US senator.
Parnell will be reelected as governor.
Palin will run for president in 2016.
Quitter!
After this abrupt resignation halfway through her term, Palin could not be elected to the Wasilla City Council, much less a national office. That bridge is burned, forever. If it's fame and fortune that she seeks, this is not the right way to do it. She will forever be known as "The Quitter" after this.
One part of me hopes that all is well with the physical health of Palin and family. However, that would be the only acceptable reason, that I can see, for this action.
The worst thing about this whole situation is the orgasmic delight that Palin has afforded the back biters and hate-filled liberals who now feel vindicated for their scorched earth approach to any who disagree with them. We have seen the future of politics in Alaska, and it is not a pretty picture. Republican politicians beware, if you succeed in your election, you and your family will be savagely attacked. Why not? It works.
Even though he's nearly a century old, Wally Hickel would have been a better choice for appointment as Lieutenant Governor...
Wally and a bunch of other old-school Alaskans seem to be still making steady progress toward building an LNG export terminal in Valdez.
http://www.alaskajournal.com/stories/062...
TransCanada is required to keep a Valdez/tidewater LNG option included in their contract..
this is now their only profitable option under AGIA because the megapipe won't amortize unless Henry Hub stays above $6-8 for the next 40 years..

@majast2211: And do you really care about any of it? Or just whining? So what, if he isn't in Juneau either? I'd rather have any Governor closer and more accessible to the majority of the population. Why do you think so many times and forever there's always been talks of moving the capital somewhere else besides Juneau? But all you care about is to take another stab at Palin, that's all.....
I would have liked her better if she stayed as governor than if she jumped ship to become the junior senator from Indiana, or whatever it is she's going to be come November 2010. Another page out of Hillary's playbook...
I knew she couldn't make it .. she has to much Heart..To much integrity, you have to be slime sucking to be in this current government.. UNLESS she gets allot and I mean allot of other politicians to be more like her this government will never go anything but further down hill.. I personally am sad to see her go ... but I cant blame her a bit.. Its all dirty.. and she has loyalty to our state like no other,... Id have cracked under the tremendous pressure too..
Governor Palin thank you for your service. The world is your oyster feast on it and provide the best for your family. Politics these days on BOTH sides of the isle is full of crazy liars who will stop at nothing to take good people down. People who let politics infect them tend to lose all civility. Both sides need to stop the petty childish behavior and start rebuilding the promise of America and Alaska.
This is to those who think that everyone that is not a Palinista is a Democrat!! I am an AIP member and very conservative fiscally, and very libertarian in all of my views. We should be living by the Constitution, not by whims of politicians and divas. I was a HUGE supporter of Sarah Palin prior to her debacle down south. She is the one that changed her "live and let live" Alaskan view to one of WE KNOW HOW YOU SHOULD LIVE, religious right republican view!!! I am glad to see her gone, and if she stays out of politics, wish her and her family well as Alaskans.
The series of economic blows that are already happening in slow motion here in Alaska will not have Sarah's name on them. Once again she will avoid the real nuts and bolts of economics, Reagan was a master of this act. Preserve the rhetoric at all costs and keep moving on up. The show will go on.

How can the world be her Oyster when she is a proven Liar and quitter and who knows what next (Theif)?
The world sees her even more for the joke she is, then they did previously.
I didn't realize how many people in the Alaska had "short term" memory! Do we not remember the "Good Ol' Boys"? Well, after attacking Palin's family, beating her down with excess bull, she has given up and now what do we have? The "Boys" coming back just before a new pipeline could possibly start. More padded pockets!! How soon we forget!!
I applaud Palin for her decision. She obviously lost all interest in being governor of Alaska since last August. Her many trips Outside proved that. I'm not even going to mention just how ineffective and corrupt she was while in office. This resignation is the best thing for her and the state.
She can now capitalize on her fame, i.e. book deal, perhaps a national TV and/or radio show. She can be the next Rush Limbaugh.
She craves the spotlight. She will probably run for president in 2012 but not to win. She knows she can't win. She'll run just so she can be in the spotlight (if she doesn't have a national show in place by then).
Honestly, not shocked, angry or surprised. As a woman I see her stregnth, as a politician, I think their is room for growth. She has a plan, know that! I really do hope she proves to be a force to be wreckened with. I am sure she has something up her sleeve like ALL Politicians. Just maybe this one does have a plan for the greater good! I wouldn't want to throw myself at the Socialist wolves either. I to am strongly opposed and disguisted about the way our Country is going. At this rate we will have more Government control than Germany by the end of the year. What happened to the land of the free? I am fearful and afraid, yet just maybe there is a glitter of hope out there. Spin this anyway you want to, I am just one more poor American whos thoughts, hopes and dreams are on the line like so many others.......
Regardless of what you think of Palin's policies, QUITTING partway into your term as Governor does NOT show commitment. IF, she WAS running for 2012, she'd remain governor until election night, if she won. While out campaigning you let the Lt. Governor takeover, something Ms. Palin did not do. So, she just committed political suicide. You think she's gonna run, and beat Murkwoski? She's a sitting Senator with out much controversy, and is being named higher up into the Republicans part of the Senate.
Palin is hiding something, and it will come out after the holiday weekend. And no.. it's NOT going to be glorious, or wonderful. If she's lucky she'll be on house arrest, with her child.
I think she is making a BIG Mistake leaving office this early. She needs to think about others now more then herself. I think she is not going to make a good name for herself by doing this. She need to stay in Alaska and work her way to the presadent seat. I think is she dose this she will rune her name in the politics. she need to show the USA that she is not only 100% for Alaska but she will be 100% for the USA also. By leaving this early it shows that she is not 100% for Alaska and there for she will not be 100% for the USA. I like Sarah Palin alot. My appinion she is the best Gov Alaska has ever had and she needs to stay here and finnish it. I think she will make a good Presadent in the futher. USA need a presadent that will fix the country and not quit in the middle of it and if sarah Palin quit now as Alaska Gov what says she wont quit as Presadent? I will still support her because shes good but the only thing that I dont support is her walking out on us when we need her the most. This State got so messed up with the last gov that was in. Now we have a gov that Alaska follows and dose what she says she is going to do and now shes walking out on us that not right. What will come for us NOW? We will all miss you Gov Sara Palin. Good luck.
uh pixyfae, "wreckened with" ???
reckoned, never been much of a speller..lol
Huh? Given up? You have watched her in action all this time and think she has given up? She is doing something different, yes. Just like the rest of us she has this one life to lead and she is being true to herself and her family. There is a structure in place and life will go on. But remember this for a fact she did not bring down the old boys. The FBI in response to Ray Metcalf did that. And even all of that is questionable when you pull back and look at the bigger picture. Veco went down. A direct competitor to Haliburton. Ugly as sin the fall was but more likely it had to do with business on a much larger scale than politics at the State level.
Lets throw this out for fun. Don Young has spent a fortune keeping his ties to Abramoff as far under the radar as he can. The federal investigations may have started to find some real meat. Don resigns before Labor Day weekend (kind of like Sarah's 4th of July thing) and Parnell dutifully appoints Sarah Palin to fill out Young's term. She gets to have a D.C. address and could easily travel about the country. Missing votes and extended absences from Congressional duties would hardly be new behavior for the House rep from Alaska.
Apparently the left-wing hate mongers have nothing better to do than spread their hateful message on forums like this, this Independence Day weekend!
If any of you actually listened to what she said it would be clear that she did what she felt was best for the state and for her family. It is because of left-wing hate mongers like you who filed bogus ethics complaints and cost this state millions of dollars that she felt she needed to take this path. YOU are the ones who have set her on this course at this time! You should have thought your actions through a little better because now she is coming for YOU!
GO SARAH!!! The majority of Alaska loving and American loving people love you and stand by you all the way! We the People will prevail and save our country from the socialist lefty loons.
Thank you Sarah for your sacrafice!
Well, when I heard this news yesterday, I think I might have thought a quote from Sarah "Yes, there really is a God".
God has now blessed us with Sarah's resignation and will now relieve us of the embarassment she's been to the picture people have of Alaska!
Thanks, God!
AlaskanPatriot. I bet you are not even from Alaska. You have made one comment on this site, and this was it!! I would never be so presumptious to question your patriotism, but I sure question the fact that you are from Alaska.
I am a vet, and a member of the AIP for 28 yrs. I have lived in the interior for a little longer than that, and was a huge supporter of Sarah Palin before SHE changed and decided that she was the savior of the religious right of the republican party. I, for one, would never support anyone that felt like that and as such, I am glad to see her leave politics. If she, in fact, leaves politics for the betterment of her family, I will wish her the best as a fellow Alaskan, and hope she lives long and enjoys all the greatness of our home here.
"snogoqueen," Alaskans haven't changed their minds: We know what we want! Our former gov is the one with the changing mind, nearly every day, and without thinking first apparently! She sure wasn't thinking of Alaskans.
LukeH,
NOTHING WOULD SURPRISE WHEN IT COMES TO SOON TO BE X-GOV.
But, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop...
LOL. It's so ridiculously blatant what people behind the "Huffin&Puffin Post" are doing. Which is more of the same dirty tactics they used to get their Beloved Obama elected: Virtually eliminate the opponents by mounting a heavily orchestrated smear attack on everybody that poses a threat to their agenda. Their homepage headline recently reads in the biggest, boldest font I've seen in a while: GOP Senator rips Palin: You Abandoned Us" If that's not fabricated theatrics and drama, I don't know what is..... Then in a smaller caption they have the clueless and moronic Biden also riding the bandwagon and attacking Palin. LOL
I wonder if anybody behind such websites cares about what day it is today? A day to remember and be glad of living in a country that stupid morons so-called journalists like them are allowed the freedom of speech to publish that kind of garbage.....
Didn't Joe Biden and Barry Obama quit their jobs mid-term to do something different? Yes, I think they did.

Sheesh, Dipper, you're turning out to be a bigger drama queen than Prospector!
After 20-plus years of Rush Limbaugh, the whole culture of victimhood thing just ain't working anymore, dipper.
I've seen more ranting and raving and general unhinged-ness from the righties on these boards post-Palin than by the lefties. Swearing, the use of inappropriate words such as 'tard', condemnation of imagined hateful haters, etc.
I just want to let you guys know that it's going to be OK and to not do anything rash.
Just remember: YOU'LL GET OVER THIS! Keep telling yourself that!
@Yukonjohn: She didn't changed, the liberal MEDIA coverage changed ever since the VP run. And I can tell it worked too, most of what people have embedded in their minds about Palin is negative. Never-mind all the good stuff she's done and continues to do for Alaska.
I bet most of the haters can't name one of the many good things she has done. Probably they don't care either. And probably most are from the Lower 48. The liberals continue to run scared and I bet they will even try to twist and spin the most obvious good things she did like the selling of the "Murkowski jet" or declining a salary increase, etc. Just wait for it......
It gets more ironic. I don't how many times I saw some people calling for her impeachment or resignation. Now it happened and they're even more scared! Back-pedaling like their Beloved O.
Hey JETorres, I have never read the Huffin & Puffin Post, but I think they quoted the GOP SENIOR SENATOR from Alaska correctly. Her comment was:
“I am deeply disappointed that the governor has decided to abandon the state and her constituents before her term has concluded"
I think that many of you supporters of Sarah are just in a dither about what to do next. I can understand your frustration. Just hold tight, someone will come along to fill her place, somehow, someway. They will not be the savior that she was going to be, but they will be some kind of fill in.
Torres, and suppose your ever lovin Bush was an upstanding person?
YES, WAS PURE AS THE WIND BLOWING ACROSS THE CHICAGO STOCK YARDS.
Things sure changed when was gone. All you Bush lovers had to find a way to vent.
@Oh_please: Nobody uses the "victimhood" card more than the liberals. SO you don't know what you're talking about.....
Ummmmmm.... JETorres? You're ENTIRE 1:57 post was nothing but blubbering victimhood...
@Alaskana: Yes, Bush is a more upstanding person than Obama, that's for sure!
YOU, the Bush and Palin haters are the ones venting, ranting and raving for the past 8 years and now they're both gone, what are you going to do? Anything useful? Like finally start looking at the mess the Beloved O keeps burying the country in?

ExxonMobil appeared alongside TransCanada at the legislative hearing to brief lawmakers on its new partnership with the pipeline company. At this point, the Houston-based company has entered into a partnership to do engineering and project planning with TransCanada, reserving an option to eventually become a full partner in the pipeline if unresolved issues with the state are resolved, ExxonMobil's Joint U.S. Interest Manager Marty Massey told legislators June 23.
At the top of the list is an agreement on fiscal terms that would cover gas production taxes and royalties, Massey said, but resolution of the long-standing Point Thomson lease dispute is also included.
Palmer said TransCanada believes agreement on fiscal terms with producers is the key to a successful initial open season in 2010, but stressed that this is a matter between the state and the gas producers and does not involve the pipeline company.
ExxonMobil's entry into the project has raised some hackles among legislators.
"State Rep. Bryce Edgmon, R-Dillingham, said having a producer involved cuts against what he understands as the state's goal in having an independent pipeline company develop the project rather than producers.
Edgmon suggested that if ExxonMobil comes to the state with a request to change gas production fiscal terms, the state should take back the $500 million incentive grant.
@Oh_please: No, what I posted is facts that you obviously can't rebut or refute. Typical response.....
@Yukonjohn: It's not that they quoted the senator incorrectly. You missed the whole point! It's the worst case scenario negative headlines they always use to obviously keep trying to sink Palin.
Meanwhile, Obama is killing this country and every time they talk about him, you can hear the most slobbering love song from Barry White playing in the background.....
If that's not obvious to you or anybody, then never mind, we're both wasting our time....
Name calling is a weak way to make your point. Like her or not Governor Palin has a certain charisma that some people find very appealing. I'm not a big fan but she has a huge popularity base. I just don't think her future is in politics. At least not in the sense of being a candidate. She already has one book deal and I'm sure fox news would welcome her in a heart beat. There is also the possibility of syndicated radio which she could do from her home.
@flat_lander: Yeah, they got the dirt from the hole Obama's been digging himself in.....

I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
HAPPY INDEPENDANCE DAY! Thanks to the freedom our military has kept for us, even our governor is free to make a decision to do what is best for our country and state. Of course, the hateful, lowlife here wouldn't know a good decision if it landed in their front yard.
Sarah is the best governor this state has seen in decades. I'm proud of the progress she has made in an arena that past male governors didn't have the spine to solve because they were too afraid to stand up to the animal rights extremists from Connecticut and tell them to butt out of Alaska's business rather than growing our moose and caribou populations so Alaskans young and old can depend on having food on their plates.
She promised to manage wildlife for abundance in her inauguration speech, and she has been true to her word, even appointing an "abundance czar" in Corey Rossi. Wildlife populations are turning around for the first time in decades thanks to Sarah's stand against self-appointed moralists who don't even live here but have the temerity and hubris to force their political will on Alaskans and in so doing remove food from the mouths of our children. Thank you so much, Governor Palin.
Today is Independence Day, one on which we celebrate freedom from oppression wrested so long ago from the British. But we have become lulled to sleep as our freedoms on a national scale are becoming once more at risk. America will need to wake up and really see what's going on or we'll find ourselves without the liberties for whom so many millions of Americans have died on foreign shores to preserve for us. We must respect their sacrifice by keeping America strong and preserving our freedoms found in the Constitution that make this the best nation in the world in which to live. God bless America.
As has been previously pointed out....several others have cut and run when faced with the possibility of gaining higher office....Obama, Biden, Clinton, etc....where was all of the screeching from you naysayers then....ah, when its people that you approve of, then its ok but be it someone that you do not approve of then its open season and damn those of us who point out realities! DEMOCRATS should be renamed as HYPOCRATES!
"Simmer down, Prospector.
I know this is a hard thing for you to swallow but could you please shelve your usual rudeness and conceit for one day?"
Oh-Please...are you for real???? You have got to be the rudest and most conceited fascist on the News Miner.
You sit proudly in the seat of mockers. But your mock savors but of shallow wit!
You are the lowest of the gutter-snipes!!
Hello again from Sacramento.....you can find my first post at 7/4/2009, 12:05 a.m. if interested.
Thank you Joslankas. There are several million intelligent Californians, besides myself. Although, there are several who "thought" Palin was worth their attention. I think they have now learned a lesson. If is sounds like a heavily produced little talent pop song then it is.
Dana Vandam - "most Alaskans don't give a whit about what those in California think of us or our chosen Governor" What an interesting way to say "Stick it" up your anything. I have no doubt that most in Alaska are not interested in what someone who may have never even been to your state thinks. However, I am an American and there is nothing special about being Alaskan just as there is nothing special about being Californian, we are all Americans. If you don't want to hear the opinions of the other 49 states then tell Palin to stay home. I am pretty sure the bible thumpers will be inviting her down here to speak about Jesus and politics. Unfortunately.
Glow - How appropriate that the first picture you see of Palin is her standing with her back to you. conservatives4palin.com Come on, someone has to let the site know that no campaign manager in his or her right mind would ever want a picture like that at the top of a website. Thank you for the site, but I am looking for a site that does not have such a one sided PALIN view. I would like to read what normal Americans have to say about what she has done. Normal like this site. I am not interested at all in what bible thumping, blinders wearing Palin lovers have to say. Interesting that there are so few Palin supporters on this site defending their politician chosen by god. I like to read both sides of the issue, anyone other then bible thumpers, know of an Alaskan site where I can read what normal Americans are saying? Saying in support of Palin. I obviously already found a anti-Palin sight. Which I love reading by the way.
Prospector and O-please
Pay no attention to pitdog!
He likes to type nasty things, then read them again before posting, then chuckles.
Pitdog, are you related to Sarah?
I for one am glad she is leaving. I don't criticize her for it. Comparing it to Obama and Biden is a joke. There is really no one else to compare it too. That is why it is news.
I just feel she is a sell out, and nothing anyone can write will convince me otherwise. I feel sorry for her, but she asked for it.
If memory serves, didn't Governor Wally Hickel also "abandon" Alaska (for a job in Washington during his first term under Richard Nixon?) I don't remember HIM being called a quitter or the many other names that have been hurled at Palin.
And in 1990 he stepped into the election as a temporary member of the Alaska Independence party (yeah, right.....)in order to snatch the governorship from the REAL candidates.
I could think of names HE should have been called. Yet people accepted his duplicity yet attack Palin for being honest. Maybe because he was rich and famous? Maybe because he was a man? Palin is neither rich nor a man and the media and narrow-minded people descended on her like a pack of hungry wolves.
If given half a chance by those who seem to be threatened by her, Palin just might have had a chance to be one of our best governors.

If I still lived in California (which thankfully I haven't in 37 years), I would be much more concerned about my own state government than I would be about Alaska's. I would be concerned about the billions of dollars that my state assembly insists on giving out as political bribes so they can be reelected, while meanwhile the state is sending out IOUs on previous obligations. I guess that higher taxes is always an option if you live in California, and insist on strict environmental laws and an open invitation to support illegal aliens.
When the "quitter" Palin leaves, we'll still have a great state, unencumbered with massive debt, with prosperity in our future despite this resignation by our governor. Whereas you, in California, would be much better off if your entire state government resigned en masse, along with the city governments of Sacramento, SF, and LA. Instead, you'll have to beg Obama to come to your rescue, spending "normal" people's money to bail California out. The bill for all the money that California has irresponsibly spent will be left for the rest of us to pay. Thanks, California.
Yea, I'm a disappointed supporter of Palin. I'll get over it quickly, and so will Alaska. And it wont cost you a penny.
Alaskana: thanks for the compliment. And yes, I am sure the truth hurts both you and Oh-Please and the rest of you Palin hate mongers. For you not only hate Sarah Palin...but all others who may have the temerity to disagree with you and your age of "enlightenment." We are fast becoming slaves to the tyranny of enlightenment, while virtue they will curse, speaking harsh words. To search for truth in the heart of fools is the act of a mad man, and such is he who searches for wisdom when it is no longer allowed.
I have a dream: a Governor, that is here in Alaska, works here. One that would have rejected TransCanada. One that I have some sense of confidence will lead through the coming economic decline that is coming our way, solely focused on things that are happening right here in the largest state in the union. Thanks for leaving Sarah, the bottom line is your attention is divided too far and you have pulled up and said whoa. Pretty honest thing to do really and I take my hat off to you for sparing us the ongoing drama. On that point above all others I gotta say, "Sarah you Rock!!! "
Thank you,
a fellow Alaskan
Oh-Please...are you for real???? You have got to be the rudest and most conceited fascist on the News Miner.
--------------------
Well, now I'm just getting downright confused!
I thought I was a commie, hippie, America hater from Ester. Now you tell me I'm a fascist?? I don't think I want to learn to goosestep. Will I have to move to North Pole?
Oh_please-
Why are you always so bitter? And whiny...
How are YOU holding up, Dipper?
Try and stay busy.
Oh-please-
I'm fine. Thanks for asking.
Here's a recomendation:

I would love to see the republicans nominate Sarah Palin as their chief candidate with the democrats fielding Tina Fey in the 2012 election.
I've been talking to people here and in the Lower 48 since the Big Announcement (that is, after I stopped doing my happy dance, grinning like an idiot, and jumping up and down). I haven't talked to a single person of any political persuasion who said this was a Bad Thing!
Don't let the door hit you in the @$$ on the way out, Sarah.
Oh, Dipper....
Jonah Goldberg? Really??
First a vigorous defense of George Allen and now this??
You need a vacation.
I agree with the snogoqueen. Todd and Sarah are good people and the kind we need in politics. Instead we get over educated idiots that cannot tie their shoes. I hope the Palin family recovers from the spotlight and can resume some semblance of normalcy.
Pat
Hello Big Dipper
First, you are right, California has problems. How nice of you to point that out, I had no idea. : )
Second, thank you for the money you have already spent on taxes and the taxes you will be paying soon. That will go a long way in helping us in California. I guess I should say all the banks, car companies, wall street etc. etc.... also thank you.
Third, if Arnold had been picked as the VP, lost and then quit his job I would totally understand why people from outside our state would feel the need to comment on it. That said, I am totally with in my rights as an American to read, comment and laugh at Palin. If McCain had not ruined his chances by picking her, I and several million other people would still think Alaska was too far from Russia to see it and we would not give two poops about what is going on up there. You should be thankful such attention is being paid to your state. I for one have plans to come up there soon and spend some of my hard earned California money in your state.
TheBigDipper
Jonah Goldberg?
Didn't National Review author and former editor, Jonah Goldberg's mother, Lucianne Goldberg, have a role in the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal.
Lucianne Goldberg was the one who advised Linda Tripp to record her conversations with Monica Lewinsky and to save the dress stained by Bill Clinton.
Lucianne Goldberg was also a Nixon spy in the McGovern Campaign in 1972.
http://select.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.h...
Jonah Goldberg is married to Jessica Gavora, who grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska who was a former chief speechwriter and a senior policy adviser to George W. Bush's former Attorney General John Ashcroft.
Small world isn't it?
I wonder if Jessica Gavora went to school with fellow Fairbanksian Andrew D. Lundquist who ran Dick Cheney's Energy Policy Taskforce for Enron?

==================================
CONDIT IS GOING TO HELL [Jonah Goldberg]
Maybe I missed this in the corner already, but did you guys here what Gary Condit said the other day?
"I think the fact that I would be in Washington, DC, I would be able to at least have some contact with law enforcement to see that they don't let the thing sort of die out, like they have a lot of other missing people in Washington, DC."
This is the greatest re-election strategy I’ve ever heard of, kill someone (yeah, yeah, I know: he might be innocent), then tell your constituents you need to be sent back to Washington to help with the case. Maybe ABC Sports should take OJ back -- the added exposure might help in the hunt for the real killers?
http://www.nationalreview.com/thecorner/...
==================================
Say, TheBigDipper, didn't they just charge the real killer, Ingmar A. Guandique, who killed Chandra Levy?

Believe me, I'm not happy about, nor have I been happy about any of the bailouts, including TARP and the so called Stimulus Bill.
I have no say, or opinion, about your vacation plans. Come or go as you please. I have no desire, or ability to take away your freedom of speech. By all means, ignore the collapse of California, and join our circus up here, even if by DNM comments.
But, you can keep your "two poops".

Stakeholder-
Oh, my God. His mother was a spy for Nixon.
So, what is your point? Is it that Goldberg must now be discredited?
Stakeholder-
Where are you going with this?
Do you find Goldberg offensive?
It's called opinion, and it's pretty lightweight stuff compared to the HuffPo.
I can find mediamatters.org, on my own, thank you very much.
I heard that Lord Urkel was going to nationalize California.
Gone to Valdez on Thursday and now back in North Pole... Absolutely SHOCKED at Palin's announcement! I was sitting at the Totem Inn having breakfast one day and saw "Palin Abandons Alaska" roll across the bottom of the screen on the news show on TV. I had no idea what it meant until just now when I managed to get home and sit down to read the news.
Where the heck did this come from? (Rhetorical question. I suppose I always expected half-brained ideas like this from Palin).
And I know next to nothing about Parnell. I'd just gotten used to Palin, since she seemed to show a media-glitzy version of herself during the presidential campaign. And I'm not suprised to see so many people upset/angry over her decision, nor so many people HAPPY that she's leaving. But really, is Parnell safer? Will he do the job better?
What kind of a place is Alaska for my children to grow up in, when "stability in government" is no longer available? It makes me wonder if I'm telling the truth when I tell people there's no better place to raise my children.
I suppose I can love Alaska without loving her government.
Happy belated 4th to everyone!
Palin was over polarised. As far as the Govs role in the day to day operations goes, just what do you think a Gov. does? Hold peoples hands and wipe their bottoms. That might be your idea of good govt but it's not mine. Go to LA and raise your kids there.
Seems like just yesterday Sarah was dropping a dime on Ruderich for taking care of Republican Party business while on the job. In fact that was and is Sarah's sole actual event in "taking on the old boys".
Like all this that has gone on since the McCain Mistake has been just taking care of business for us Alaskans. She is making a choice to be honest and I am proud of her even if it is a lot late.
TheBigDipper you said:

============================
TheBigDipper,
My point was the RIGHT, in Alaska, can be just as "over the top" as the LEFT in Alaska.
But the RIGHT was much more CONNECTED to the Bush administration than the LEFT ever was in any Democratic administration.
I think Goldberg's writing in the National Review was/is "over the top" don't you?
I liked what Palin stood for in Alaska until she became John McCain's VP cadidate last year.
Why did Palin become the spokesperson for the Religious RIGHT?
She sure didn't project that in Alaska prior running for national office that I recall.
.
Can we Alaskans get back to business ? We have a state to run. Sarah Palin deserves to have some quiet time with her family, which I hope she embraces!
I think after visiting Iraq/Afghanistan, whether she heard a message from God or not, but seeing our soldiers sacrificing life and limb can have an impact.
In my eyes, there is no greater American, than those defending this country we opinionated folks seem to take for granted. Are they - the US military - defending you? Yes, they are! Whether our soldiers are in Iraq, Ft Wainwright, Afghanistan,...where-ever. When push comes to shove our soldiers make the unltimate sacrifice. I think Sarah may have seen more than she can explain on her visit to the Middle East.
So, let Sarah have some quiet time. Leave her alone.
Let's get back to supplying Alaska with oil or natural gas or some form of energy.
Let's get back to work on our state.
Stakeholder-
I read Goldberg often in National Review. No, I don't think that he is, by any means, over the top.
I used to think that Alaskan Democrats were independent of the national party. A little more conservative and pro-development. They're pretty much in step now with the Obama-Reid-Pelosi regime. I thought that I would never understand how union Democrats could be so thrilled about working with environmentalists whose stated goal is to stop development and thus jobs. ("Green jobs" is, by and large, a hoax.) That was before John Sweeney and the AFL-CIO took a hard left. Now, it's a matter of divvying up the money and the power.
Opinions expressed by contributors to these comments reflect how far left Alaskan Democrats have strayed.
TheBigDipper
I have always found it ironic that Alaskan so-called "conservatives" could hold the self-image of the self-rightous independent when in fact Alaska is probably the most socialist state in the nation.
Is not Jay Hammond's Permanent Fund an acceptable form of socialism to most Alaskans?
What of Wally Hickel's comment:
[Palin] "has taken another road.
It’s an important concept for the world, and we mustn’t lose what the founders of our state created 50 years ago."
http://community.adn.com/node/141753
But TheBigDipper,
Isn't an "Owner State" of Hickel's but an example of socialism at it's finest.
Or Wally Hickel's citing of Article VIII of the Alaska Constitution mandates that our "commonly owned resources" must be developed for the maximum benefit of the people, not for the benefit of a few insiders or multinational corporations.
In the past 50 years, we have built our state on that principle. It's the only place like it in the world.
http://www.adn.com/opinion/comment/hicke...
continued:
Or TheBigDipper,
Are we as a State just to give our non renewable oil and natural gas resources to Exxon and the Koch family like the copper, fish, gold and timber were given to outside corporate interests like Guggenheim family's Kennecott Mine before statehood.
And what of the undisclosed special interests of the Fraser Institute?
=========================================
Fraser Institute
Editorial Advisory Board
"Prof. Friedrich A. Hayek"
http://www.fraserinstitute.org/commerce....
====================================
Friedrich Hayek:
The "informal" economics presented in Milton Friedman's massively influential popular work "Free to Choose" (1980), is explicitly Hayekian in its account of the price system as a system for transmitting and coordinating knowledge. This can be explained by the fact that Friedman taught Hayek's famous paper "The Use of Knowledge in Society" (1945) in his graduate seminars.
Harvard economist and former Harvard University President Lawrence Summers explains Hayek's place in modern economics this way: "What's the single most important thing to learn from an economics course today? What I tried to leave my students with is the view that the "invisible hand" is more powerful than the [un]hidden hand. Things will happen in well-organized efforts without direction, controls, plans. That's the consensus among economists. That's the Hayek legacy."[39]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friedrich_H...
=====================================
TheBigDipper,
Wasn't Adam Smith's, Friedrich Hayek, Milton Friedman's the Koch family's "invisible hand" really just self-serving?
;>)
So TheBigDipper,
Isn't there a middle ground between "socialism" and unfettered "laissez-faire" capitalism?
I am ANGERED (grrrrr)
that the FNSB mailed out the property tax bills so as to dampen the holiday weekend spirit!
What happened to Palin the Republican iconoclast:
"Canada my ass, it's Alaska's gas."

2006-08-14: Palin casts herself as Republican iconoclast
Matt Volz/The Associated Press
Published Monday, September 1, 2008
This story appeared in the Aug. 14, 2006, Fairbanks Daily News-Miner
ANCHORAGE—Tacked up prominently on a wall in Sarah Palin's downtown campaign headquarters is a newspaper clipping with a picture of two signs beside the trans-Alaska pipeline.
The first one reads, "Canada my ass, it's Alaska's gas." Underneath it, the second sign says, "Sarah Palin."

Stakeholder-
You have successfully taken a comment about a political writer, and turned it into a seminar about "Socialism in Alaska". While you were so engaged, I was out playing golf and drinking beer.
Therefore, due to the far flung, complicated topics that you offered up, and my worn out body and mind, I'm going to have to take a pass on this argument. I know socialism in Alaska has been argued before, during the vote on the Stimulus Bill is one time that I recall, but I'm not up to it. Maybe somebody else will step to the plate.
As the then Illinois State Senator Obama was renowned for saying, "I vote present."
Assuming Palin remains involved in politics she can do a lot more for America than remaining the Governor of a largely socialist state. The wholesale destruction of America and the creation of a depression by the Obamunist regime is far more serious than any local issue.
She is the left's worst nightmare and I hope to see her galvanize the opposition and reverse the red tide drowning America.
Jesus Christ noainc.
You have to be kidding all of us and yourself. Let me see if I can make this easy for you. Palin is not smart. No one with any sense thinks she is intelligent. She has shown her true colors and they are beige, off beige and low luster beige.
The left's worst nightmare??? WHAT??? I hope she runs in 2012. The right and the left will have a great time laughing at the stupid stuff that comes out of her mouth. You must be a Christian Extremist. They are the only group who have the holy blinders on and don't see anything negative about her at all.
The creation of a depression by the Obamunis regime??? Did you just get saved from the wilderness of Alaska? Have you not been in America for the last 8 years? What in the world makes you think Obama created this mess all by himself? How could Obama have sent our country into a depression in 5 1/2 months? HOLY CRAP the stupidity..........
You know what...........FORGET IT. You are obviously too retarded to bother with. I will be logging out and never coming back. I just can not take all the ridiculous crap that people come up with. Not to mention all the crap the same damn people talk about over and over and over again. I have to remember there are people in the world who have nothing better to do and nothing intelligent to say.
Goodbye and enjoy yourselves. It was fun for a little while.

Don't let the proverbial door hit you...
I get so tired of the "me" mentality. "I am this, I am that, me me me" it's always about ME ME ME. And damn it, if YOU don't like it, stay away from ME!
America the shameful.
