Public Safety Report — Oct. 13

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Assault

• Nathan Daniel Axhelm, 21, of North Pole, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend twice in late August.

• Henri A. Devoe, 56, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly yelled at his girlfriend and acted as if he was going to hit her on Saturday.

• Andrew S. Ely, 23, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly punched someone in the face last November at a bonfire in the Lathrop Dike area.

• Kyianna Amber Rhodes, 18, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly bit her mother’s arm July 20. The two were fighting about cigarettes, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

• Brittany Ester Patricia Paulson, 18, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly slapped her ex-boyfriend in the face and threatened his fiancee on Friday.

• Joshua Daniel Simpson, 20, of North Pole, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly pushed a man Sunday at a North Pole home. Simpson appeared intoxicated and became belligerent with the man’s wife, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

Alaska State Troopers contacted him nearby, but he allegedly kicked at them while under arrest and had to be pepper-sprayed to be taken into custody. He also was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and minor consumption.

• Jon Matthew Wheelock, 41, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly grabbed his girlfriend by the throat last March and threatened to shoot her and her children.

Burglary

Troopers are investigating a burglary that occurred between 4:30 p.m. Saturday and 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Woodwin Wellness Center on Farmers Loop.

DUI

• Travis Ira Blevins, 28, of North Pole, was charged with felony driving under the influence after North Pole police pulled him over for speeding Thursday on the Old Richardson Highway. Police found a marijuana pipe and a small amount of marijuana in the car and a loaded rifle in the front seat.

Blevins’s girlfriend told police he had just dropped her and their 9-month-old son off at Safeway before the traffic stop.

Blevins also was charged with misdemeanor counts of drugs misconduct, weapons misconduct and child endangerment.

A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.157.

• Luke John Bonnewell, 24, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after University of Alaska Fairbanks police stopped him for weaving

Oct. 1 on Geist Road. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.176, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 to operate a motor vehicle.

• Gwendolyn M. Leivdalh, 29, of Delta Junction, was charged with felony driving under the influence after she ran into the back of a school bus Friday afternoon near 266.5 Mile Richardson Highway in Delta Junction. No injuries were reported.

A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.265. She was convicted of drunken driving in 2003 and 2004, according to court records.

• Charlotte Christine Noble, 28, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police responded to a report of a possible drunken driver Friday night in the area of Cushman Street and Airport Way. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.123.

• Luis A. Ramirez-Valencia, 28, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police contacted him Thursday night at the Harold Bentley Drive McDonald’s while investigating a disturbance in the area. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.145.

• Edward Shanahan, 39, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police spotted him speeding Sunday morning in front of Barracuda’s Beach Bar. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.211.

• Wayne P. Stearns, 55, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers witnessed him weaving early Saturday morning on Farmers Loop. Stearns smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech at the time of his arrest, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. He also was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test.

• Joseph M. Zamora, 23, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police pulled him over for driving erratically in the area of Lathrop Street and Airport Way. Zamora smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot eyes and poor balance at the time of his arrest, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. He also was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Drugs

• Mary K. Anderson, 29, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree drugs misconduct, a felony. A worker at the Cushman Street Laundromat found a bag of methamphetamine after Anderson used one of the tanning booths Friday night. Anderson denied the bag was hers, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

• Jody Lyn Weller, 41, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree drugs misconduct after Fairbanks police stopped her for an outstanding warrant Saturday and found a cocaine pipe and knife with cocaine residue on it in her pockets. She also was charged with weapons misconduct, a misdemeanor.

Furnishing alcohol

Jonathan Moses Henzie, 18, of Fairbanks, was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor after he allegedly gave liquor to another 18-year-old last month at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Henzie told UAF police he paid a stranger to buy the liquor for him. He also was charged with minor consumption.

Multiple charges

A Fairbanks man faces multiple charges after an altercation with his roommate during the weekend.

Both the roommate of Jay Michael Dirks, 26, and the roommate’s girlfriend told troopers they were afraid Dirks would harm them early Saturday morning at their Badger Road home.

Dirks allegedly broke a door and the windshield of his roommate’s car in the dispute. As troopers arrived at the home, they spotted Dirks attempting to drive away. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.193.

Dirks has been charged with driving under the influence and two counts each of fourth-degree assault and criminal mischief.

Theft

• A Fairbanks woman is accused of burning her boyfriend’s pictures and throwing away an antique airplane propeller worth $1,000-$4,000.

Cynthia Lee Hawks, 41, has been charged with second-degree felony theft and criminal mischief.

• David Brian Reynolds, 57, of Fairbanks, was charged with second-degree theft after he allegedly tried to walk out of Fred Meyer West on Thursday without paying for a $700 generator.

Reynolds told troopers he did not have enough money to pay for the generator but planned to come back and pay for it later, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
