Remaining ballots to be counted today in municipal elections

FAIRBANKS — Several close municipal races will be decided today after more than 1,000 absentee and questioned ballots are counted.
In North Pole, residents are waiting to hear who will be their mayor and who will sit on the City Council.
One race on the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly remains undecided, as does a close race on the Board of Education.
North Pole Mayor Doug Isaacson is waiting to hear whether voters elected him to a second term.
The former mortgage broker is neck-in-neck with Jeff Jacobson, a middle school teacher and former city mayor.
Isaacson spent the weekend alternately thinking about how to carry out his goals for a second term and what he would do if he is out of a job. Election night results put Isaacson nine votes ahead of Jacobson.
Also a nail-biter, Isaacson said, was the North Pole High School football team’s semifinal game against Bartlett High School on Friday in Anchorage. The Patriots lost.
“That was more nerve-wracking than waiting for the election results,” Isaacson said. “I have a son who is on the team.”
Joshua Lott is waiting to hear whether his second attempt at getting elected to the Borough Assembly paid off. He challenged assembly Presiding Officer Nadine Winters and trailed the assemblywoman by 189 votes on election night.
“I am hearing a lot of positive feedback from people who did early voting and questioned ballots,” Lott said. “I’m trying to be patient. I’m excited to hear what the outcome is going to be.”
Wendy Dominique has a 285-vote lead over her challenger, Lynette Bergh, for school board Seat B. Dominique is seeking a third term.
“This is the first time it’s been this close,” Dominique said. “I should be able to pull this through with my experience. Everybody has been saying, ‘You’ve got it,’ but I feel like it’s not over until it’s over.”
The City Council in North Pole has three hopefuls with a chance of winning two seats. The candidates are incumbent Doug Wilson and political newcomers Nick Vetter and Willy Cork.
Cork, a retired foreman, is leading with 140 votes to Wilson’s 139 votes and Vetter’s 127 votes.
“I know there are two more votes for me,” Cork said. “My wife and I voted absentee because we were going on vacation.”
A canvassing board headquartered at the borough administrative building has been validating each ballot.
The ballots will be opened today and run through electronic counting machines, which add the totals to the election night totals, according to the borough clerk.
The results should be available in the afternoon, municipal clerk Mona Drexler said.
The borough election is set to be certified on Oct. 22, and any new members take their seats Oct. 26.
The North Pole election is set to be certified Monday, and new officials start their jobs the next day.

My wife and I pray a lot for Joshua Lott.
My wife and I pray a lot for Robert Gentleman.
Please hurry up with that counting.
We have a big celebratory potluck planned to celebrate the "loss" of "the bag lady".
Everyone has to bring a "covered dish" in a PLASTIC BAG!
This election was so close in many races, so it's important that everyone in the borough go out and vote for the Mayor race. Your vote counts and it could be the deciding vote that makes a difference.
Don't vote unless you agree with me.
I hope Cork doesn't get screwed.
If we follow TAC's orders, above, no one will be able to vote in the next election.
TAC - An army of one....
Good luck Nadine!

My wife and I would like you to stop the B.S. and get serious for Sarah Palin 2012
Mr_one_time - Don't bring the former Governor into this. But if you must, is she going to resign the Presidency in 2014?
Palin is not a conservative. She grew government and raised taxes (both in Alaska and Wasilla). Give up on this big government republican. We've had enough of those.

WOW! Your "wife" let you post "B.S." on here! Just like a big boy!
My dog and I would like YOU to stop the BULL and grow up. As far as supporting Palin in anything? When Hell freezes over. This Alaskan doesn't support quitters (and neither does my dog!)

My wife says you're a very impish person.

What's taking so long?
Are they recounting until they lose enough votes that Nadine comes out ahead?
Nadine will ask for another election
Just checked the FNSB's website and they have Nadine Winters winning by over 200 votes or 50.33% of votes casted. The voters have spoken and apparently the majority agree with Nadine. Should be an interesting runoff for mayor.
Way to go Nadine, stuck to your guns. There is hope for Fairbanks after all, would have hated to see the election hijacked over freakin plastic bags.
*rolls eyes*
I truly and honestly dont believe that there are people that like Nadine. I am amazed at their stupidity!
