Public Safety Report — October 15

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
Assault
• Robyn George, 22, of Nulato, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly slapped a man in the face Sunday in Nulato.
• Robert Wayne Hohman, 45, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly choked his girlfriend on Sunday.
• Tucker F. Holmgren, 24, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly struck a bouncer at Kodiak Jack’s on Saturday after the bouncer asked him to stop blocking the entrance to the men’s room. A small amount of marijuana was found on Holmgren when he was booked into jail, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
He also was charged with misdemeanor drugs misconduct.
• George Bradley Mountain, 21, of Fairbanks, was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, after he allegedly punched a man in the face several times. The alleged assault occurred Saturday in Nulato. The victim had to be transported to Anchorage because his jaw was fractured in two places, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
• Rebecca Coleen Big-Joe, 26, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly punched her boyfriend on Tuesday.
• Christopher A. John, 22, of North Pole, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly pushed his girlfriend on Monday.
• Rita Carol Stidger, 44, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly threatened to strike someone Monday.
Burglary
• Alaska State Troopers received a report Monday that someone stole a firearm from a Tok home late last month. The investigation is ongoing.
• Someone recently broke into a home in Delta Junction’s Burgstad Trailer Park and stole less than $50 worth of property. The burglary was reported to troopers on Sunday morning.
Crime Stoppers
Fairbanks Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of whoever broke into the Fairbanks North Star Borough Transportation Department MACS Transit Bus System building last week.
Fairbanks police were called to the building Friday morning and discovered about $3,000 worth of damage to doors and windows in the building.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Investigator Jim Gibson at 450-6549 or Crime Stoppers at 456-CLUE.
Tipsters can remain anonymous and still collect a reward.
DUI
• A Fairbanks woman told a state trooper she drove a motorcycle on the wrong side of the road and was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, court documents allege.
The incident occurred Saturday at the Tesoro station at the intersection of College Road and University Avenue. The trooper was there on an unrelated matter when Susan L. Hockenbury, 44, of Fairbanks began talking to him. She also admitted to driving the motorcycle without a license to do so.
Hockenbury has been charged with driving under the influence and driving without a valid license.
A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.229. The legal limit to operate a motor vehicle is 0.08.
• John A. Murry, 41, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers stopped him Saturday for failing to stop at a red light at the intersection of Washington and Rewak drives. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.072.
• Marlene Purvis, 63, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police pulled her over for weaving early Saturday morning. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.146.
• Sean Michael Hall, 18, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after University of Alaska Fairbanks police stopped him Tuesday for driving on west Tanana Drive without an illuminated license plate. A drug recognition expert determined that he was under the influence of cannabis and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Drugs
• A suspected drug dealer was taken into police custody Sunday with the help of employees at Tony’s.
Police were called to the restaurant after an employee saw a man, identified as William Ostlund, 38, of Fairbanks, allegedly drop a bag of white powder in the restroom.
When Fairbanks police arrived, Ostlund repeatedly put his hands in his pockets, despite police commands not to do so. The third time he removed his hand from his pocket, he was holding a “golf ball-sized” bag of white powder, and he was told he was under arrest, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Ostlund allegedly tried to run to the back of the restaurant, but an officer caught him, at which time he dropped the baggie, which later tested positive for the presence of cocaine.
Employees of the restaurant had to help police handcuff Ostlund after he was Tasered and continued to resist police, according to the complaint.
After he was taken into custody, another witness told police he saw Ostlund snorting powder in the bathroom and saw him sell some of the powder to another man.
He has been charged with third-degree drugs misconduct, a felony, as well as misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
• A fifth person has been charged in connection with a drug bust earlier this month.
Michelle L. Blue, 38, of Fairbanks, is accused of selling crack cocaine to an undercover informant two times on Oct. 2.
She has been charged with two counts of third-degree drugs misconduct, a felony.
Blue was arrested during a sting operation conducted by Fairbanks police and the Alaska Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement. During the operation, an undercover informant would call suspected drug dealers to a local business and purchase small amounts of drugs.
Theft
• A wallet was stolen out of a vehicle parked in the 1500 block of Buttercup Street sometime Monday afternoon.
• Two ladders, one a fiberglass stepladder and the other a handmade wooden ladder, were reported stolen Monday morning from the back of a pickup in the Delta Junction area. The ladders are worth about $300, according to troopers.
• Troopers are investigating the theft of a canoe from the Clearwater River area of Delta Junction. The canoe, a green 16-foot long Coleman model worth about $800 was reported stolen Monday morning.
Vehicle theft
A 1985 Ford F250 diesel pickup truck, license plate 2765 CT, was stolen sometime in the past three weeks from a Moose Creek Road home in North Pole. The truck had not been driven in about two years and needed mechanical work to get it driving, according to troopers.
