Public Safety Report — Oct. 16

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Assault

• Norman Madros, Jr., 31, of Kaltag, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly broke down the door to his brother’s room in Galena and punched his brother in the head Tuesday. He also was charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief.

• Rudy Roy Sommers, 56, of Tanana, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly hit his girlfriend in the head with a broom handle Wednesday in Tanana.

Drugs

Francis Antonio Huff, 36, of Fairbanks, was charged with two counts of felony drugs misconduct after Fairbanks police found four pills of oxycodone and two small bags of crack cocaine in his car on Oct. 8.

The car was impounded and police obtained a search warrant after picking up Huff on a felony arrest warrant the previous night, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

Nearly $3,000 in cash also was found in the vehicle.

DUI

Alfred Jelf, 28, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Alaska State Troopers responded to the scene of a car crash Wednesday at the intersection of Badger and Repp roads. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.157. The legal limit is 0.08.

Shots fired

Fairbanks police received a report Wednesday night that three shots were fired in the 1200 block of 27th Avenue. Police were unable to locate the source of the sound.

Theft

A mailbox post was reported stolen Wednesday from the Roland Road area, according to troopers.

Vehicle theft

A maroon Mitsubishi Montero was stolen sometime between last Friday night and Wednesday from Affordable Used Cars. The key was inside at the time it was taken, and the vehicle had front end damage to the left front bumper, according to Fairbanks police records.
