Palin to re-emerge on national scene

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is about to re-emerge on the national scene.

It's been four months since Palin resigned as Alaska governor, and she's largely been out of the public eye working on her memoir. "Going Rogue: An American Life" will debut next month.

Now Palin is ready to help promote the book by sitting down with Oprah Winfrey.

Harpo Productions announced Tuesday that Palin will appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Monday, Nov. 16.

According to Harpo, the interview will be Palin's first about her new book, and it will be the first time Palin and Winfrey will have met.

Palin's book was No. 4 on Amazon.com's best-seller list on Tuesday. It's slated to be released Tuesday, Nov. 17, the day after Palin's interview with Winfrey.

Palin will also be hitting the speech circuit in November and December.

Palin is scheduled to speak in a Milwaukee suburb next month as part of a program presented by Wisconsin Right to Life.

Officials say no tickets will be sold at the door of the Nov. 6 event at Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park in West Allis, Wis.

Palin also is set to speak about patriotism, citizenship and civic engagement on Dec. 2 at the College of the Ozarks in southwest Missouri. The Springfield News-Leader reported Tuesday that Palin will be the featured speaker for a community convocation.

The College of the Ozarks is a Christian school near Branson with about 1,400 students.

Since resigning from office July 26, Palin has made only a few public appearances, most notable a speech before investors in Hong Kong. She's also appeared at a gun rights dinner in Anchorage, and attended the welcome home ceremony in Fairbanks for soldiers, including her son Track.

Sarah Palin is in the news again. Reading about her is similar to looking at a car crash with people laying around dead. It's distressing and maybe even disgusting, but you just have to look anyway. What a society...

The only, ONLY reason Palin is even known is because she was McCain's running mate. She's attention hungry and knows little to nothing about the politics going on in the world. It sounds like she's doing better, but she is not qualified to be anything but an AK governor, and she could barely do that.

Step down Sarah, your 15 minutes of fame have come and gone.

I always wonder why so many out of state commenters waste their time trying to get people in Alaska to support Palin. The bottom line is Alaska only has 3 electoral votes and the last time they went to a Democrat was 1964. So convincing us to like her really is a waste of time. If she ever did get the nomination, she has a better than average chance to get our electoral votes. Wouldn't it be a better use of your time trying to convince people in a state with more electoral votes to like her. Most people here have seen enough of what she has to offer to make an educated decision on their own.

Obama has "abysmal and glaring failures"? Are they like Sarah’s abysmal showing in the polls and glaring failure to capture even a majority of republicans?

"Both Romney and Huckabee easily topped Palin in head-to-head comparisons. The survey, which was conducted by telephone on Oct. 15 among 750 likely GOP voters, did not include a hypothetical Romney-Huckabee race."("Poll: Huckabee gains at Palin's expense" USA Today Oct 19, 2009‎)

A quick note -- no, former Governor Palin does not really factor into anything outside of your world up there, at least for the moment. She will now go on this book tour down here and speak to the converted, but as to whether she will convert others to her way of thinking, well, I am hard pressed to believe it. At least where I live, a city of five million give or take, our minds are elsewhere right now. When I mentioned Palin's book in class the other day -- blank stares. Of course, the class is all female, they are about to graduate, and no, they are hardly in her camp. Be real.

So good luck to her. but I will really be impressed when she visits places NOT in her camp. Then we'll see what, if any, response she receives.

Prospector, Well, Oprah does have the golden touch. Why, I just don't know. Maybe it's a female thing--women are really drawn to her it seems. So yes, this could be very helpful. Then again, it could be a Katie Couric moment. My gut says she'll be more polished after that experience, though. I have no fears or hopes one way or another, though i am sure both sides have already written how well she did/didn't do before the interview even happens. I'll just wait and see...
