Senator’s efforts

Published Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Sen. Mark Begich deserves recognition for his work with Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on the offshore oil and gas development issue. I must admit, I have been a harsh skeptic of our junior senator and did not feel he was being vocal enough about issues central to the future of Alaska’s economy.

I have been pleasantly proved wrong with the recent decision by Secretary Salazar and thank Sen. Begich for working for the responsible development of Alaska’s resources. Hopefully, Sen. Begich will continue to support the inclusion of domestic oil and gas development provisions in the Senate’s climate change bill. I thank the senator for his efforts.

good for the senator who will not return any comment to the voters who write or call him. do not worry he will be a one term senator but by then he will have a federal retirement with health care as well as any state benefits he aquired as the mayor of anchorage so he is set for life.

Off shore drilling will bring income to the Feds not the State. The companies do not have to hire a single Alaskan and most likely will bring in their own work force to build and work these platforms. The State receives little to no income from off shore drilling on Federal leases. Before you praise Begeich you should learn the facts about drilling on Federal leases.

Remember Mark's campaign promise of being able to open ANWR for development using his democratic ties?

    How's that coming a long?

Obama/Salazar/Begich - a team that will prevent ANY new development in Alaska...well except for more National Parks...

I contacted all three of our federal representatives offices on an issue I had. I recived several calls back with questions from both Young's office and Murkowski's office, and was updated on what they were able to do to help. Nothing from Begich's office though I wrote, emailed, and called to leave messages (no answer other than a message machine when I called several times).

I am sorry, but Mark doesn't care about Alaska or its residents. He is too busy being a lap dog for the powers in Washington at this point. This state made a mistake when it voted him into office.

He must care about me because I received a letter from him in response to one of my emails.

One good thing Alaska has going for it,our "Junior" Senator won't grow up to be a Senior Senator.
    Can you say one term.

Yeah unfortantly its six years. It is going to be a LONG six years.

The problem is at this point he could care less what the Alaskan voters think of him. He'll start worrying about that in 2012.

Senators Reid and Pelosi are up for re-election this coming year along with many of the vocal liberal congressional membership. 2010 could turn into a very ugly mudslinging election year.

I have thus far not been impressed with Sen. Begich's performance. All I have observed to date has been multiple attempts to ingratiate himself with the Democrats doing their best to destroy our Constitution. I do not see Senator Begich standing up for the rights of our state or its citizens.
