Alaska Air reports 3Q profit

Published Thursday, October 22, 2009

ATLANTA - Improvements it has made in on-time performance and being insulated from the slump in international travel helped Alaska Air Group post a profit for the third quarter.

The Seattle-based operator of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air said Thursday it recorded an $87.6 million third-quarter profit, or $2.46 a share, compared to a net loss of $86.5 million, or $2.40 a share, a year ago.

Revenue fell 9 percent to $967.4 million from $1.07 billion a year ago.

Alaska Air is among a small group of airlines that have profits for the third quarter.

You wonder what Alaska Air's profits would be without the Alaska market?

alaska needs comptition to keep the rates down and keep alaska from sticking it to alaskans. the airlines are short lived anyway i look for a bunch of them to go broke in the future. a lot of people are shying away from their great service.i am waiting for them to start charging to use bahrooms on the planes.

McGilla, You mean like this? Sadly, most of the things in this 1987 Alaska ad have come true.

good grief, $500 to travel thousands of miles and then come back, that's a pretty good deal.

one of the worse things about living here is having to fly Ak airlines. Wish Southwest or Jet Blue made the stop. Or at lease have a FAI to Oakland flight.

steelrsrv- there is a FAI-SEA-OAK flight. You should try it sometime.

I'm constantly amazed at the people who complain about having a middle seat for a 3.5 hour flight to cover a distance that used to take 3 months to Anchorage and then another month up river. My my my, aren't we the spoiled little brats. I'm usually stuck in a middle seat, no the price doesn't bother me, and I'm just grateful to arrive at my destination to visit family and go play tourist.

Try opening your gratitude bottle people, you've been sucking on the lemon juice for too long.
