Public Safety Report — Oct. 22

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Assault

• Leslie T. Barton, 24, of Fort Wainwright, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly punched a man in the eye Monday.

• Jason David Christian, 38, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly threw a small battery at a woman’s chin Sunday. He also was accused of damaging a television and charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief.

• Patrick O. Hermes, 47, of Fairbanks, was charged with assault on a police officer after he allegedly kicked and tried to bite a Fairbanks police officer early Monday morning. The officers were investigating a report of possible domestic violence at Hermes’ home. He refused to let them into his home and began cursing and acting hostile toward the police, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

He also was charged with disorderly conduct.

• Jon Edwin Kincheloe, 21, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly choked his girlfriend Tuesday.

• Richard Blane Muhlethaler Jr., 45, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly choked his ex-girlfriend late last month.

DUI

• Mark Tyrone Aamodt, 40, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Alaska State Troopers saw him drive into a concrete divider Monday at the intersection of Airport Way and Old Airport Way. Aamodt smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech at the time of his arrest, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. He also was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test and driving without a valid license.

• Darrell Ray Agnew, 33, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers received a report Friday night that he appeared to be intoxicated at the Geist Road McDonald’s. Agnew was contacted at his nearby home in the 500 block of Ramola Street. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.137. The legal limit to operate a motor vehicle is 0.08.

• Carlton Owen Clyde, 24, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police received a report Saturday morning that he passed out in his truck while in the drive-through of the Airport Way McDonald’s. Someone behind Clyde honked their horn to get him to move, at which point he drove through the drive-through and went to the back of the line, ordering the same food he had just requested, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.153.

• Peter Joseph Demoski Jr., 52, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after University of Alaska Fairbanks police stopped him for making an improper lane change Sunday on Geist Road near University Avenue. Demoski admitted to smoking marijuana prior to driving, and a marijuana pipe and about 0.3 grams of the plant were found in his possession, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

• Mistie Fleming, 38, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police witnessed her weaving early Sunday morning on Airport Way near Cushman Street. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.131.

• Erica C. Frenzl, 25, of Delta Junction, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers spotted her speeding Saturday at 1406 Mile Alaska Highway. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.099.

• Daniel Heppeard, 50, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police attempted to pull him over for speeding Saturday on Airport Way near Wilbur Street. Heppeard continued driving to the Peger Road intersection before stopping, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. Charging documents allege that he had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech at the time of his arrest. He also was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test and failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer.

• Robert Matthew Hirn Jr., 44, of North Pole, was charged with driving under the influence after his wife called North Pole police Saturday, claiming he had driven home drunk and was throwing food around the house. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.108.

• James Thomas Hutchison, 57, of Fairbanks, was charged with felony driving under the influence after troopers stopped him for weaving Friday on Chena Hot Springs Road near Woodchuck Place. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.10. Hutchison’s license plates were allegedly made out to other people as well.

He was charged with additional counts of using improper evidence of registration and driving with a revoked license.

He was convicted of drunken driving in 2007 and 2008, according to court records.

• Robert Joseph Lype Jr., 48, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers stopped him for speeding Sunday near 26 Mile Chena Hot Springs Road. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.144. He also was charged with driving with a revoked license.

• Billy Aunnuochoruk Pannick, 54, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police found him passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle late Friday night in the 100 block of First Avenue. He told police that he pulled over because he knew he shouldn’t be driving, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. He also was charged with driving with a revoked license.

• John Eric Powell, 29, of Anchorage, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police spotted him driving the wrong way Saturday in the 600 block of Gaffney Road. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.112.

• Jane Anne Read, 51, of Diamond City, Alberta, Canada, was charged with driving under the influence after UAF police stopped her for driving on the wrong side of the road Saturday on Kuskokwim Way near West Tanana Drive. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.127.

• Michael Wayne Rocha, 25, of North Pole, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers found him sleeping behind the wheel of a vehicle Sunday at the front gate of Eielson Air Force Base. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.062. He also was charged with violating conditions of release.

• Jason T. Standish, 25, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police stopped him for driving with only his parking lights on early Sunday morning on Noble Street near Fifth Avenue. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.168.

Multiple charges

• A Fairbanks man is accused of possessing a crack pipe and a small amount of marijuana.

Fairbanks police pulled over Adrian Cofey, 40, after spotting him driving aggressively in the Peger Road area, near Standard Street.

A police dog indicated that drugs were in Cofey’s truck, and police witnessed him jumping around during the traffic stop. He told police he was moving from seat to seat “because the lights were freaking him out,” according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

Cofey has been charged with felony drugs misconduct and driving under the influence and driving with a revoked license, both misdemeanors.

A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.066. He refused a drug recognition exam and claimed to be under the influence of cough syrup containing codeine, according to the complaint.

• A North Pole man faces several charges after troopers allegedly found drugs and a gun in his car while he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

Troopers responded to Mushers Hall on Sunday for a report that a man was sleeping in a running car.

They woke up Joseph Edward Baker, 36, and found the gun in the car and 10 small bags of what appeared to be methamphetamine.

Baker has been charged felony counts of drugs and weapons misconduct and a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence.

A drug recognition expert determined that he was under the influence of a stimulant and unable to safely operate a motor vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

Theft

• A wallet and cell phone were stolen Tuesday afternoon out of a vehicle parked at the College Road Taco Bell.

• Fairbanks police received a report Tuesday that a purse was stolen out of a vehicle parked in the 1400 block of Noble Street between Sept. 18-21.

• A computer worth about $800 was stolen Tuesday out of a car parked in the 800 block of Fifth Avenue.

• A purse was stolen at Regal Cinema on Tuesday.

• Someone broke into a garage in the 500 block of Baranof Avenue about

4 a.m. Wednesday and stole tires, wheels, a GPS and garage opener. A neighbor’s vehicle also was broken into, according to Fairbanks police records.
