Palin's book already a best seller

NEW YORK - Just two days after HarperCollins announced that Sarah Palin's "Going Rogue" had been moved up from the spring to Nov. 17, preorders Wednesday night for the former Alaska governor's memoir made it No. 1 on both Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com.

Among the books "Going Rogue" is outselling: Sen. Ted Kennedy's "True Compass," Mitch Albom's "Have a Little Faith" and Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol," his first novel since "The Da Vinci Code" and, perhaps until now, the year's most anticipated release.

Palin, in collaboration with author Lynn Vincent, completed her 400-page book just four months after agreeing to terms with HarperCollins, which plans a first printing of 1.5 million copies. It's the first book by Palin, the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor until suddenly resigning last summer.

She is regarded as a possible 2012 contender for the presidency. Past candidates, notably Barack Obama, have been helped by writing best-selling books, invaluable platforms for politicians to tell their story.

The response at Alaska bookstores was mixed.

A woman taking a call at Waldenbooks in Wasilla, Palin's hometown, said she was pre-ordering a copy at that moment and there had been "lots of interest." She would not give her name but referred a reporter to her boss, Borders district manager Grant Larsen, who said interest had been strong both in Wasilla and Anchorage.

"We're very excited about it and already have several signed up," he said. "We're expecting that to be massive."

A lot of people are coming into the store and asking to reserve a copy, Larsen said. Borders booksellers also are asking customers if they want to reserve one. The more people reserve copies, he said, the more copies the stores will get.

Julie Drake, co-owner of Anchorage's largest independent bookstore, Title Wave, stopped to quiz her booksellers about Palin's book.

"Nobody has said a word. Not a single customer has asked about it. I don't know what that means. Maybe we're all going rogue, going all mavericky," she said.

"Sarah Palin finished her book... and became a best seller even faster... Just two days after HarperCollins announced... the release of... "Going Rogue"... preorders for the former Alaska governor's book have made it No. 1 on Barnes & Noble-dot-com... and... No. 2 on Amazon.com..."

I hear the first printing is set for 1.5 million (and I hope she sells 5 million plus before she's done). What's she going to say? Don't know but would guess it will impress enough people that Harper Collins will willingly invest in a deal with her to write a second book!!!

This is a surprise? To whom? This is a culture where people bought pet rocks. Absolutely she is laughing her way to the bank. More power to her. Of course she was right -- to quit being Governor and make a mint for herself. ANd she obviously won't stop here. Why not go for it? People sell what they've got. She's got notoriety. Whatever works, use it.

I understand "Mein Kampf" also sold in the millions of copies and Mao's little red book sold in the tens of millions of copies.
Then there's the Nancy Drew mysteries, the Hardy Boys, the Tom Swift and Tom Swift Jr. (don't confuse the one for the other) series...all of which sold in the millions.
I suspect some seeing this article might confuse quantity for quality. (Is it true the first chapter is entitled, "And on the 8th Day He Made Me!" following by such chapters as "Me, My Bulldozer, and How Denali Came to Be", "I See Russia, I See France...", "Why Won't NASA Admit I Was First on the Moon?", and the final chapter, "P.T.Barnum Was Right About What's Born Every Minute; Thanks for Buying This Book!".

Word is, they want Leslie Nielson to play Sarah (although originally they wanted Peter Sellers ala Inspector Clouseau until someone pointed out he has long been dead).

The only thing that really bothers me about this is how it shows Levi was correct. I hate to give that mimbo credit but in this instance he had Sarah pegged dead on. In his recent Vanity Fair interview he told how Sarah had talked about wanting to quit the governorship because she could make at least triple the money outside it that she was making while serving.
Of course, with her gadding about giving talks, working so hard on this book, that rest and relaxation with her family that she cited as a reason for quitting seems even more shallow and incredible than before but that's Sarah for ya. Never one to let the facts stand in the way of a good story.
Makes you wonder what else Levi got right about her....

    N. Korea has already ordered 5,000 copies. People convicted of misdemeanors in that country will be forced to read the first chapter. Those convicted of felonies will have to read the next 5 chapters. Those convicted of treason will be given a choice between having to read and summarize the book or death by hanging. (Fortunately, they've also had the foresight to order several hundred yards of high quality rope.)

Also, the U.S. Forest Service has ordered 7,000 copies. Field tests have demonstrated the book is up to 7 times more effective in repelling aggressive bears than the best bear spray. Tests are underway by the Navy to see if it has similar value as a shark-repellant.

BTW, the first 1.5 million purchasers of her book will find a special coupon at the end of the book whereby Sarah personally invites them to invest in her new Nigerian company. It appears a former prince of Nigeria left her over $5 million in a bank account and all she needs to do is raise $400,000 to get the money released after which she will share it with all the people who subscribe money to the fund. For a $50 investment, for instance, she guarantees the subscriber will receive back at least $10. Those investing even greater sums may see as much as $25 coming back to them for every $1000 they send in.
She figures she can raise at least 1.5 million subscribers.

UGH, Sarah Palin makes me sick, she is an embarrassment to Alaskan women everywhere and women in general for that matter. I can't wait until her 15 minutes of fame is over.It is a simple fact that her book wont be worth the paper it's printed on. And a movie too, what a joke! Why does this woman have such a following, some people are calling her a role model even. What for? She is a quitter, plain and simple and a bad sport as well. I am so happy to have her out of office, she never wanted to be our Governor anyways and I know a large majority of people who didn't want her either. I really do hope the quitter runs for president in 2012 but only to give the other candidates a better chance. You really would have to be an idiot to want that sorry excuse for a woman to be our first female president. We can do a whole lot better. A vote for Sarah in 2012 is a vote for the end of the world as we know it.Hey maybe that's what that 2012 Mayan dooms day prophecy is about. HAHAHA

So, the point of this article is that Palin's book is going to do well. There is a lot of anger and frustration in this country right now and if she can channel it she will do well. Normally I don't read political books but I will have to make an exception for this one. The only intelligent question to ask at this point is will it live up to it's hype? I hope so and some here hope that it won't. If it bombs then oh well. If it rocks, and it will, then good.
Nov. 17 you say? That gives the left some time to sweat. I wonder if there will be runs on book stores and people camping out overnight to be the first to get it? Arctic Cat could give away a free copy with every snow go.

The topic of the article is "Palins book already a best seller" , not about how much hate and fear the leftwing socialist can spew at the mere mention of her name.

Perhaps if the AP and the Newsminer covered President Obama's dealings with ACORN, Van Jones, Afghanistan, the safe school czar, Iran or any number of topics. Well I suppose we will see a nice piece of 'investigative journalism" on how he single handedly brought the Olympics to Chicago.

What? Obama's a great president. He runs his current office like he did his last one...always campaigning for the next election, and leaving all the decision making up to everyone else. He doesn't have to worry about blaming others for his bad decisions, because he doesn't make any decisions. That's left to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

You want leadership? Despite literally DOZENS of his speeches on healthcare, he can't even get all Democrats on board, let alone any conservatives. How do the American people feel? ABC News/Washington Post's poll after Obama's last big speech on the matter showed:

Split on Obama's handling of health care: 48-48 (46-50 August 17)
    Support Obama's health care reforms: 46-48 (45-50 August 17)
President Obama's job approval is at 54 (57 August 17)
Deficit: 65% think health care reform will make it worse
Medicare: 56% of seniors think it will weaken Medicare

On the crucial "what's in it for me?" question, twice as many Americans (32-16) think it will make their own care worse, twice as many (40-20) think it will increase their costs, and more than three times as many (37-11) think it will hurt their coverage.

So, right now Godbama is at the Olympic headquarters begging them to give Chicago the big show in 2016. Won't that cap his glorious rein of power nicely. I guarantee the publishers will print no more than the 1.5 million copies already printed, y'all will see- once people crack those babies open and get a few pages into them they will realize that they will be worth more as a sleep aid, after they've restocked the bargain bins with them. Wait and see......

Looks like I was right too- you people really do think a failed V.P. campaign, failed governorship and ONE measly book deal that MIGHT sell more than 1.5 million copies is all a person needs to be president. Obama has much, much more political experience, of course.

Howard Stern has sold more than 6 million copies of the two books he has written, so how is "Sarahs" 1.5 mil deal supposed to be impressive? and/or how does it qualify her to be president? Howard Stern 2012!!!

The term "former governor" loosely applies as she didn't even make it halfway through one term before quitting. Walking out on an important job like that is very telling about a person, she will never be trusted with such an important position again. Probably not enough, in her mind. I'm sure it's the most money she's ever made at one time anyway, she must be on cloud nine about now, thinking of all those digits on her bank statement...

Too bad money isn't everything, obviously, a six figure wardrobe didn't win her the White House. Just like whatever money she's duped the publishing company for isn't going to buy her the presidency in 2012.

Tuna, at least I can stay on topic. And I'm sorry but you don't determine "credibility" here, or anywhere else for that matter.

(That doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching you make an a** of yourself, over and over, along with your little digital buddies. Ignorance is bliss?)

You guys didn't graduate high school, did you?

(The level of immaturity on y'alls posts is very revealing.)

    And, Junior?

Based on your loathing for Letterman's extracurricular activities, I'm waiting for you to call for John Ensign's immediate resignation. Remember him? The Republican senator who was cheating on his wife with a staffer and being blackmailed?

(Is it true the first chapter is entitled, "And on the 8th Day He Made Me!" following by such chapters as "Me, My Bulldozer, and How Denali Came to Be", "I See Russia, I See France...", "Why Won't NASA Admit I Was First on the Moon?", and the final chapter, "P.T.Barnum Was Right About What's Born Every Minute; Thanks for Buying This Book!"."

Dobieman... Thank you SO much! I haven't laughed like that over these posts in a while.

The Whine -- "I'm waiting for you to call for John Ensign's immediate resignation."

Have I called for Letterman's immediate resignation? No. But clearly you are not a happy little girl, therefore, if you will stop your whining, I will call for (buh, buh, buh, but...) John Ensign's immediate resignation.

Is he the guy that made the undercover videos of ACORN supporting child prostitution? Or maybe he is the guy who told Obama that it would be a good idea for him to go to Copenhagen. No, wait, he is the dude who tried to blackmail Letterman.

Palin was upfront about using the services of a ghostwriter, Obama used a bomb throwing communist terrorist named William Ayers to ghost write his book and will not admit it.......

It looks like John Ensign is a senator who Bill Clintoned one of his staffers wives and then bent the rules to help the guy out after he quit. Rod Sterling would be proud of this one.

    For the Sarah Haters

There was once was a Sarah named Palin
    who found her polytiks failin'
with a wink and a look
    and a ghostwritten book
she got rich from a tome about bailin'

    For the Sarah Lovers

There was once was a Sarah named Palin
who got sick of the liberals railin'
with a plan in her hand
    and support from her man
she showed how the US could quit failing
