Taken by a Fairbanks photographer, this "Mail Team, Alaska" is probably getting close to town if the driver can just keep the horses from falling through the snowdrifts to the tundra below. Early mail in Alaska was transported by dog team, horse sleds and riverboats. Do you think horses might have been too heavy to try snowshoes out? — Candy Waugaman
