Something that is really hard for me to believe is last summer when I was in Alaska, reg. gasoline was $2.68 per gal. while in Ca. it was $3.00+ per gal. Now here in Ca. a gal. of reg is at $3.85 per gal. while in Fairbanks it is around $4.05 per gal.?????? As far as giving $475 million back to the utilities Co., etc. I don't get it, but as far as giving it back to the public in assistance... Fantastic! One of the reasons that I don't stay in North Pole year round is the cost of heating fuel.

Tammykauff........ Is Beech Bend Park still there? I remember the annual motorcycle drag races there every summer in the 70's. It use to be a great weekend party, one of the best motorcycle runs of the summer!

A great place to start is the Tourist Info Center just across the Chena River Bridge and across the street from the Marriot, (the tall tan building, center and to the left on the artic cam), they would have information on anything worth seeing in Fairbanks or just about anywhere in Alaska for that matter. It is also a great historical site with much of Fairbanks history within a small plaza where you can see the Unknown First Alaskan Pioneer Family statue and plaques detailing the early history of Fairbanks. The Dog Sled Museum, the Ice Museum, several great resturants / coffe houses, etc. are all within walking distance from the Info center or the Artic Cam.

Scott, Here in North Pole we have a 17 foot well at our place and to be truthful the water at that depth is not that great. Way to much iron content so we do not use that water for consumption at all. The next house over has a 30 ft well and thier water is excellent. We have water stations here in Alaska where a lot of rural area people get thier water, .25 cents - 14 gal.
But again, North Pole is in a low, flat marshy area 12 miles east of Fairbanks.

Flapalms,Go to this web site http://alaska.org/denali/tundra-wilderne... , it will give you in detail what the Tundra Wilderness Tour is all about. When I went last year it was a very interesting and exciting trip. It took 7 1/2 hours for the tour and the driver was very informative and colorful. You go 63 miles into the park, stopping several times along the way. We saw several bears, had to stop because of moose blocking the road, two hurds of caribou, no less then 100 Dall Sheep, wolves, magpies, etc. It cost a total of $54.00, which included park entrance and a box lunch. The Wonder Lake tour does go another 20 miles into the park, but it does take another 2-3 hours, just to see the lake. The Tundra Wilderness Tour does not cut the Tour short if you can't see Mt. McKinley. The fact is, that Mt. McKinley is only visiblie, maybe, maybe, 30 to 35 days out of the year. Which ever tour you choose I am sure that you will enjoy it. But you can't please everyone all the time. :)

Flapalms ; Definately the Tundra Wilderness tour ! But even in Aug be sure to dress warm. Also, DO NOT forget your camera. You may not, and probebly will not get a good look at Mt. McKinley but the surrounding Mountain Ranges are gorgeous.
