flyfishmaine98 - just wanted to let you know the lingo. Snowmobiling is called snowmachining in AK. They call it a snowmachine.

skyblue, I know what you mean. I haven't had Pad Thai since I left Fairbanks July 2007. I miss having it. We don't have any Thai restaurtants here in Etown, KY. Go figure. I'm only 40 miles from Louisville. You are right. Safeway does make great sandwiches. I used to stop there alot and the kids love it also. I also liked the Thai restaurant across from Sams and the Thai Restaurant downtown on 4th Avenue they moved from one place to another. Take care everyone. Heading out now to do some errands. I'm lucky because I have off on Friday's. Gotta love it.

Enjoy the snow!!!!

Chellemore - I think it was you that asked if I was able to get into our friends luggage. Well we are still here in Kentucky and they are currently in Fairbanks, hopefully enjoying the weather. I know I would. It is so gorgerous there when it snows. I really miss it.

Liz - the weather right now is 45 degrees in the morning but next week is Fall break for the kids and the temps are supposed to rise into the 80's again during the day. By next Friday it looks about 72 during the day and 54 overnight. Shouldn't be too bad. I'm looking forward to sleeping in myself. It would have been nice to meet here in Kentucky and then meet up in Fairbanks. Oh well. Have a great safe trip up to Kentucky and back to Florida.

Just to let everyone know Elizabeth McCullough was the first to list Susan Stevenson's website. I just posted it again when I asked her if she had checked out Susan's trip to Denali.

Take care everyone and Harriet where are you????? You ususally post before I get on at 6:30 a.m.

Liz, yes I did. It makes me sad because I want to be there. I check her website almost daily to see what she has written about. I just wish I could take pictures like hers. She has the skill. When we get back to Alaska, I'm going to have her take pictures of my family.

My dog misses the snow so much. She has gained 10 pounds living here in Kentucky. Too hot for her outside and I think she has allergies because she sneezes alot. She even hates the bugs here because she is constantly jumping at everything in the grass. Oh well.

It is going to be a nice 65 tomorrow but then rise to the 80's again this weekend and part of next week.

Take care. When I get back to Alaska for good, you'll have to look me up when and if you can get back for a visit/move there.

Elizabeth McCollough & Harriet Patterson - Check out Susan's Blog from when she took her trip through Denali. She has some wonderful pictures on her site. My favorite was the one with the American Flag flying and Denali in the background. Stunning!!!

THawkins - Do you need a maid when you and your husband move back? I will work for room and board. My husband is trying to get us back to AK next summer. My son will start 9th grade next year and we want him to start and finish at the same high school. Hopefully it will work out.

A co-worker couldn't believe that I would consider moving back to Alaska when my husband retires. I just laughed at her. We miss it soo much.

My son just had his Middle School Football Championship game last night. His team won the championship and are going to the first ever State of Kentucky Middle School Championship. His coaches were complaining they were cold last night. I asked my son if he said anything to them and he said "no mom I just laughed in my head". It was only 60 degrees. He played in a championship game in Fairbanks and it was in the low 40's.

flyfishmaine98 - If your wife didn't have a hard time with the Maine weather she will adjust fine to the weather in Fairbanks. I know when my husband was tranferred I went kicking and screaming. Now I want to be back at my house in Fairbanks. I miss it so much. Just make sure you do things in the winter, dinner, movies, cross country skiing, ice fishing etc. Don't stay home go places. Once you get past 12/21 you start seeing that you will get more sunllight and think of spring. You only get about two weeks of bad weather -40 below. It doesn't last long and as for the cost of living. Yes it can be expensive but you find that you will not spend too much money because you will only buy what is needed. A few good pieces of clothing and you are set.

Take the job or anyone of the webcammers will take it for you. Most people who blog here want to be in Alaska. I know because I have friends who are moving there for the first time tomorrow and I want to get in their luggage. Not gonna happen though but I wish with all my heart.

I hope this helps. I love Alaksa and can't wait until hubby retires from Army.

kingfisher- missed seeing your pictures from your trip. If anyone has the link please post it again. I would love to see them.

New friends of ours are moving to Fairbanks next Thursday. My kids and I are trying are best to figure out how to get into their luggage or I suggested they needed a maid and I was willing to offer my assitance. Even the kids want to go back. Oh well. My husband is trying his best to get us back there. We may get back to our home in Fairbanks but my husband may have to be somewhere else for a couple of years. He can visit us. I'm originally from Maryland but Alaska has become my home. It's where I feel happiest. I still have many friends in Alaska. I'll be back soon I hope
