Obama and the military

Published Thursday, July 17, 2008

Sen. Barack Obama's Deputy Campaign Manager Pete Rouse had a conference call with Alaska reporters earlier today. I had the opportunity to ask him if he would clarify the presumptive Democratic nominee's position on Iraq for the large number of military personnel who call Alaska home. This is what he had to say:

"He has consistently said that we need to be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in.

He respects, values and admires the troops over there, but this is not a war we need to fight, but get out and send more of them to Afghanistan."

There you have it. Any thoughts on the upcoming race? Are the Iraq War positions of Obama and John McCain going to have any influence over your vote?

Being a military spouse the idea of voting for Obama who seems to be promising to withdrawl our troops seems inviting but my concern is that knowing my husband is deploying in Sept to Iraq I wonder and worry for the safty of those soldiers left there while massive withdrawls take place etc. Wouldn't this be putting our soldiers who are still there in more danger with less US Troops present?
