Welcome to Alaska Gardening Roundtable

Several gardeners in and around Fairbanks will be sharing their gardening stories and tips with readers this summer.
Starting out the blog is Heidi (Harvey) Livengood. Heidi moved to Fairbanks in 1986 when her father was stationed at Fort Wainwright. She graduated from West Valley High School in 1999 and the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2003.
She said, "with raising six young children; learning to become more sustainable; pursuing my hobbies of sewing, quilting, knitting, canning and trying out my green thumb at gardening in one of the toughest places in Alaska, my days are never boring and full of surprises. With the help of my husband, Ben, this will be a gardening year we will never forget."
In the 2008 Christmas photo of her family above, Heidi is second from left.

I've planted brussel sprouts for several years in a row now and have never gotten good results. Any tips or ideas?

Summer is almost over. Where are the tips and stories?
I have 7 cases of new quart canning jars with lids and rings that I would like to trade for 7 cases of pints with lids and rings. Thank you!
