Statements and promises
When information is scarce on critical issues, it's tempting to read a lot into what little information there is. Here's what I mean.
Gas line presentations underway
The three days of presentations by Gov. Palin's gas line team and hired experts are underway in Anchorage.
TransCanada and Denali
The possibility of a gas pipeline jointly owned by TransCanada and some or all of the major North Slope producers has been out there for months. TransCanada formally invited partners in its AGIA application, the producers have suggested they would welcome a collaboration, and Palin’s administration is open to having the parties work together. But would the producers join TransCanada’s project or would TransCanada join the producers’ project? And does it matter?
Obama endorses . . . AGIA?
Who’s the latest elected official to pledge action on crippling fuel costs in Alaska? Barack Obama, of course.
AGPA: The spoiler?
The Alaska Gasline Port Authority is alive and kicking.
Showing up at the party
Of all the concerns lawmakers have over TransCanada's pipeline proposal, one of the biggest is that TransCanada doesn't have any North Slope gas to ship. The success of the project relies on the willingness of North Slope producers to use the pipeline or the ability of the state to force the producers to use it.
Are politics killing the gas line?
Alaskans want the gas line built on their terms, not those of the oil cos, argues Ron Oligney. Is that killing the project?
