An Anadarko spokesman will update the company's exploration work on the Gubik Field at 3:30 today before the Senate Resources Committee.
Anadarko started natural gas exploration at the field on the south side of the North Slope last winter, and will need at least three exploration seasons to fully delineate the resource, a spokesman said.
The field is important because of its potential as a supply source for an in-state bullet line proposed by Enstar. Enstar and Anadarko officials said they have been discussing partnerships, pending results of Anadarko's exploratory drilling. Two rigs are working at the field this winter.
Committee co-chair Sen. Lesil McGuire said the Gubik field could be one of the most important natural gas finds in Alaska in decades.
Mark Hanley, Alaska Public Affairs Manager for Anadarko Petroleum Company, will present the overview.
