Governor changes position on whether Stevens should resign, even if elected

The governor's comments Friday confirmed that she has reversed her position from last week when she said that Sen. Ted Stevens should resign.
Before the election, Gov. Sarah Palin said Stevens should resign even if he is elected. She said the "statesman-like thing" would be for Stevens to resign.
"Even if elected on Tuesday, Senator Stevens should step aside to allow a special election to give Alaskans a real choice of who will serve them in Congress," said Palin in late October.
But on Friday, meeting with reporters in Anchorage three days after the loss of the McCain-Palin ticket, Palin said it's not her role to say whether Stevens should resign.
“The Alaska voters have spoken and me not being a dictator, won’t be telling anyone what to do.”
When reporters asked about whether she now wants Stevens to resign, she said:
"Not after the will of the people has been made manifest via that vote."
The Anchorage Daily News said that when asked if she would run in a special election if Stevens wins and ends up leaving the Senate, she said:
"Not planning on that, no, not planning on that. Just being very thankful to get to hustle back to my governor's office here and get to work as the governor."
We don't know if there will be a special election, but I'm guessing Palin would run if there is one.
