Senate leader Reid predicts Stevens will be removed from the Senate

Published Sunday, November 9, 2008

Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, speaking on CNN today, minced no words about the future of Sen. Ted Stevens, saying he won't serve in 2009.

According to a transcript published on the New York Times political blog, Reid said that the declaration of support for Stevens from Sen. Daniel Inouye shows the loyalty and friendship of the two men, but he predicted that Stevens would be forced out of the Senate.

"All the Republicans — John Ensign, head of the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, Republican Leader McConnell and a long list of people — said that he’s going to be kicked out of the Senate. Of course he is. He is not going to survive," Reid said.

"Now I think that what happened with Senator Stevens is wrong and that’s an understatement. He’s been convicted of seven felonies. He’s not going to be in the Senate" Reid said.
