State releases pipeline update; Parks Highway and Richardson routes to be reviewed
Published Friday, April 17, 2009
The Palin administration released an update on its in-state natural gas pipeline work today following critical remarks from lawmakers Thursday night about a proposed $9 million expenditure.
A press release from Gov. Sarah Palin said the money is needed to keep the planning work going.
"A four-phase plan for the development of an in-state pipeline was presented by the administration on March 3. The $9 million in funding will advance the project through phase two," the announcement said.
Joe Balash, an aide to the governor, said the first task involves a study of alternatives.
"The primary decision to be made is whether to pursue a route that follows the Parks Highway or the Richardson Highway. The decision will be made by the Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority board of directors in July. The documents layout the schedule, tasks, and budget for the rest of the year," Balash said.
A copy of the plan can be found at: http://www.gov.state.ak.us/pdf/InstateGasPipeline_Apr17-2009.pdf

How about doing both routes?
So what is this Palin, corporate welfare? If Enron, or rather Enstar wants to build a pipeline let them pay for it themselves. Why should we spend money on a line for someone we know is going to gouge the hell out of us once they drive out the competition? Oh right, there is no competition, so they will gouge from day one.
Well, Alaska is either committed to building the ANG pipeline, or it's not. Sometimes you have to put your money out there. I'm not aware of financing options via Enron or Enstar, however, both have ties with Carlyle Group. Carlyle Group has in excess of 128 billion in assets, ask them.
Project construction won't begin until 2013, as the plan stands now.
Why Alaska Legislative members were not ALL aware of the $900 million appropriation, I don't know.
Sink or swim? Swim.
Dove, it is 9 million, not 900 million.
lol oops, better yet.
My humble apology akbearable.
