Anchorage ranks near top as fast food haven

The magazine Men's Health claims Anchorage trails only Arlington, Texas as the Fast Food capital of America.
But then again, the magazine did not include Fairbanks in its survey of 100 cities. We have more than our share of burger joints.
The September issue of the magazine ranks the cities based on the number of fast-food places per capita and research data on the popularity of those dining establishments.
The rest of the top 10 are: Charlotte, N.C.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; Raleigh, N.C.; Indianapolis; Fremont, Calif.; Jacksonville, Fla.; Lexington, Ky.; and Wichita, Kan.
Buffalo was No. 100 with a relative scarcity of fast food franchises.
There is something about these rankings that makes them less than reliable as social indicators.
For example, in its listing of the best places in America for men to live, Anchorage is 9th overall, just behind Seattle.
