South Fairbanks housing work approved

Published Wednesday, March 25, 2009

A four-plex on Gillam Way will be rebuilt and a 30-unit housing complex on 21st Avenue will be re-sided with $1.4 million from the federal government, Sen. Mark Begich announced today.

The two Alaska Housing Finance Corp. public housing projects are funded by the federal stimulus law with money from the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The four-plex is to be built at 1516 Gillam Way in Birch Park II, near the Lathrop football field, replacing a building that was destroyed by fire.

The siding is for the Spruce Park complex at 1614 21st Ave.

AHFC expects to have a contract to build the four-plex this summer and to get the siding job out to bid.

A press release from Begich said that there are also projects in Anchorage, Bethel, Ketchikan and Nome, worth a total of about $2 million.
