Murkowski on 'cap and trade'

•If the final climate change bill promotes the expansion of nuclear power and oil exploration in the U.S., Sen. Lisa Murkowski might support it.
"Count me as one of those who will keep my mind open as we move forward," Murkowski said in a C-SPAN interview Sunday.
Murkowski is the senior Republican on the Senate Energy Comittee.
"Murkowski's remarks came after Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) published a column in the New York Times with Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.) in which they vowed to work together to advance legislation tackling global warming," the Washington Post said.
"We can't just count on renewables," Sen. Murkowski said. "We must aggressively start pursuing nuclear" energy, the paper reported.
In a statement Wednesday, she said she supported addressing climate change in a way that is economically safe and environmentally meaningful.
She said she hopes the Graham/Kerry column marks a turning point in the debate.
“They wrote a column, not a bill, and I do believe it could be improved. But in my opinion, the framework they laid out in those 1,000 words is already better than the policies it took the House 1,400 pages to impose,” Murkowski said.
“Instead of cutting emissions at any cost, we should be working on policy that incorporates the best ideas of both parties – a policy that accounts for our near-term energy needs, limits costs, and is flexible enough to work under different economic circumstances,” she said.

Nuclear energy is a feel good energy source for the short term. That is, until you remember that you have to deal with the resultant nuclear waste that doesn't go away for 100s of millions of years. The use of nuclear energy is, therefore, irresponsible.
Jak, you might want to re-examine that thought. The advances in nuclear technology over the last few decades are eye-opening. What was waste 40 years ago is extra nuclear fuel now. The waste has been reduced by up to 95%.
Let the bastards glow in the dark
It will never happen with the Demsolists in power.
To them, it's all about power , taxes, control, and servitude to the 'STATE'.
