KIAK Cruiser has a namesake

Published Wednesday, September 30, 2009

J.B. Carnahan, the KIAK-FM Country Cruiser, was given a birth certificate Wednesday for his namesake — a critter named "Cruiser."

The little cruiser is a reindeer at UAF.

The folks at Chinook Charter School suggested the name and the reindeer was born April 19, tipping the scales at 18.73 pounds.

The Reindeer Cruiser is up to about 135 pounds at five months of age.

Reindeer Research Program Manager Greg Finstad visited the KIAK-FM morning show to present the birth certificate to Carnahan.

After this honor, Pete Van Nort and Kathryn Harris will have to show him more respect.

School children are invited to submit names for reindeer to UAF every spring. The naming authorities figured that the reindeer program needed a Cruiser.

Christine Johnson, a self-professed "Halloween enthusiast" with a huge collection of holiday items, wants to hold a haunted house for kids and adults. But she is looking for a nonprofit group that might be interested in helping out by providing space. Call 322-4951 to talk to her about it.

Cruiser sounds like a good name for one of Santas reindeer.
