Prinz Brau mystery unraveling

Published Thursday, August 27, 2009

Well, it seems my column
(www.newsminer.com/news/2009/aug/26/mystery-prinz-brau/) on a mysterious six-pack of Prinz Brau (pronounced broy) beer has elicited numerous comments. Thanks for the replies.
Besides filling me in on the short history of the beer (made in Anchorage by cranky brewers that were none to friendly or concerned with quality) one woman called to say she won 48 cases of the beer in a contest at the Auto Service dealership. She gave most of them away.
One gentleman contacted me to say he and his wife were in a TV commercial for the beer.
Another said he still has several bottles, while others claim a can or two "laying around the house." There even seem to be some glasses, t-shirts and stickers floating around out there.
But the overall consensus on the beer: not so good. While a some folks enjoyed it, it seems the beer wasn't the overwhelming choice.
"Grizzly Whiz," is what one person called it.
30 years after the brewery closed, the cans I have probably wouldn't even taste that good.
Thanks for the responses...keep them coming. Glenn
