Weird, wacky world of Alaskana on eBay

Published Wednesday, November 26, 2008

I was trolling around the "Weird Stuff" category on eBay the other day looking for gift ideas for the "person who has everything" when I stumbled on a Steller Sea Cow Bone Human Skull Vodoo Art Walrus Tooth.

The seller lives in North Pole and has several other ivory artifacts for sale. Nothing else looked quite that, um, offbeat.

There's also Bizarre Animal Creature Taxidermy (free shipping.) Is there an Alaskan equivalent of a jackalope?

An Alaska classic: Alaska Moose Droppings Poop Earrings. Those still strike me as only slightly less tacky than moose nugget swizzle sticks. This seller is in North Dakota. Local stores seem to have a fairly large selection of similar items, so if this is on your wish list, you can probably avoid the shipping charges.

You can also bid on a Laird/Lord/Lady title. Scottish estate, plot of land. I'm wondering how big that plot of land is. It's not Alaskana, but the latitude is close.

Or, my personal favorite: The Universe. Yep, someone's selling the universe. Free shipping. How do you fit that in a Christmas stocking?
