All dogs, all the time

Published Saturday, February 14, 2009

The Iron Dog just finished in Fairbanks today, just as the Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race is getting under way in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Dogs, whether made of metal or covered with fur, are what make winter in Fairbanks so much fun. For the next two months, or until the snow melts, it's all dogs, all the time in Fairbanks. For visitors who want to experience winter without the extremes Fairbanks is famous for, this is the time to come. The sun is well above the horizon, the temperatures likely won't dip into the way-belows for long and the aurora is often often.

Between the Yukon Quest, the Iditarod and the local sprint mushing races, including the Open North American, which goes through downtown Fairbanks in March, there'll be lots of canine fun.
